Full Version: Making a Multi Announce Torrent Using Azureus

ABBANDON
The advantage of multi announce torrents is their ability to stay alive even if one of the trackes is down as your peers will swap over to the working tracker.

This guide is based on using two commonly available trackers but can easily used as the basis for any combination / number of trackers that you may care to use.

The images are from the previous version of Azureus but the Instructions are the same.

Go to File>Make New Torrent

Select or put in the URL of your Primary Tracker in this case Demonoid

http://inferno.demonoid.com:3389/announce

And select the check box for Multitracker support

Click on next to get the following screen

Click on New and enter a suitable name for your tracker combination.

Next Right Click within the box to get the Add New Tracker option

Enter the URL of your secondary tracker in this case Sladinki007

http://tracker.sladinki007.net:6500/announce

Click on save

To get the following screen

Then click Next to proceed with the normal torrent creation process.

It is important with the Demonoid tracker not to have the file already seeding, after the torrent file has been uploaded to the Demonoid tracker you should manually open a torrent file for seeding rather than selecting the automatic option.

To upload to Sladinki007 Tracker you need to make a forum post and attach your torrent file there.

It is possible to in theory have a great many trackers but there are likely to be conflicts with the upload procedures of some. That may mean they will not track your torrent. From practical experience the above combination works well.

Another possible combination is shown below

In this instance the torrent file should be automatically opened for seeding before uploading to the torrentbox tracker, it is not entirely certain if Demonoid as the third tracker kicks in in this combination as so far the other two have been continuously online.
illogical
Just a little info, the Torrentbox tracker has dropped the 2 from the url, also we now have a script running which either fills in or corrects the tracker url's, when a torrent is uploaded.
So I'm not certain that it will accept the above config', it might correct it to just the Torrentbox config'.
I'm curious for an answer to this so anyone uploading using the above let me know if you would please. cool.gif
Morning Star
iis it possible to add extra trackers to torrents allready created and in addition, when they are seeding/ been seeding?

Very smooth guide btw :P

Hi Morning Star, welcome to DarksideRG welcome2ds.gif

Although you can add/edit tracker-announce-URLs in some torrentclients while the torrent is active, it won't have any influence on the others because they will only see the original trackers that were mentioned in the torrent they downloaded (they would have to add/edit their announce-URLs in the same way).

What may perhaps be possible, is to create a new torrent out of the exact same files and with the same piecesize, but with a new bigger tracker-list, and then upload that new torrent to the new trackers and listingsites. The new torrent's hash should be the same as the old torrent's hashcode so the people on the new torrent should be able to recognize pieces from people on the old torrent, and the other way around too.

People that connect via the new torrent will be able to connect to the old as well as the new trackers, and if 'DHT Distributed Tracking' is enabled in both torrents, then the new people will share the IP-lists they get from the new trackers with the people from the original torrent who can't get those IP-lists directly. So that would have a similar effect to adding trackers whilst the torrent is active.

But here's the problem: trackers that already have the old torrent will probably reject the new torrent because the hash is the same, so that may block this from being possible -- there would have to be at least one tracker that is smart enough to merge both torrents or replace the old one with the new torrent for this to work. I doubt that this is possible, but I'm not 100% sure so that's why I said all this instead of just a simple "no not possible" biggrin.gif

What ADL has said is correct ...however it is unfortunatly possible and infact often very irritating.

If you remake a torrent with exactly the same data it will have the same HASH and providing your your using the same trackers as well as addng more it will function as it is already uploaded to the other trckers ...geting a little fed up with ********* doing this to Darkside torrents and adding them to torrentbox and some of the rubbish no upload required public trackers.

There is of course a catch to all this ....

Most, but not all list sites work as databases and check for duplicate torrents by their HASH so you will not be able to upload the remade torrent to the majority of list sites.

The purpose of multitrackers is rely to provide a back up if the main tracker is down ...some people do complicated arangements to allow themto get their torrent on certain stes ...about the only possible reason OIi can think of for using the Pirate Bays tracker.

If the trackers you are using are not overloaded there is simply no need to add dozens of back ups , that only serves to slow down connections normally, and also not that many trackers want to be back ups ...to put it simply they sulk if they are not the primary i.e. forget using Demonoid as a back up tracker it will not want to know Slads and the dreaded no sign up trackers are you best bet.

Why don't I like no sign up trackers?...mostly they become overloaded due to their popularity in their often short lifespans still leaving you with out a back up tracker.

Thanks ABBANDON and also ADL for all this. You just answered the 2 questions I had right now:

1. How to make multiannounce tracker torrents and
2: Can one add further trackers to a made torrent

Now it's clear.

Thanks!
