This was a little mishap that took place at Hout Bay Harbour in Cape Town late last year. I actually took these pics for insurance purposes (can't say much more til my lawyer arrives).

I'm happy to report there were no fatalities, the boat owner was assisted out of the wheelhouse with a couple of scrapes and bruises. His underwear couldn't be salvaged but the boat was repaired at great cost to the insurance company. The crane driver/operator fled the scene on foot immediately after his brush with the laws of physics and has never been located to this day. The crane was winched back upright and suffered no damage.

Could have been worse I suppose. unsure.gif

Good gracious that seems to be more than a 'little mishap'. Glad no one was hurt yes.gif

Thanks for the compliments guys they're all appreciated (not fooling anyone). biggrin.gif Unfortunately the only camera I own is a Canon A450 Powershot, this hardware impairment coupled with absolutely zero artistic ability and being completely inept at any photography software means you're unlikely to see awe inspiring art in any of my photography threads. blush2.gif

None the less the encouragement is working.

I've negotiated the loan of a better camera from a friend. It's also a Canon but it's got much more in the line of megapixels and looks more like a real camera than mine does (ie the lens sticks out of the front). I'm hoping to go around the Cape Town peninsula with wifey kiss.gifhearts.gif and the kids and take some scenic shots. The geography and terrain around here are spectacular so I'll see if what I end up with is good enough to post...fingers crossed. unsure.gif

Well I went through with my first ever photographic excursion. Me and my two boys drove around the southern suburbs of Cape Town. We climbed four mountains in two days and I couldn't walk straight for another two days after that.

For anyone who is interested, the camera was a Canon D5 and he insisted that I didn't break it or let the kids use it. It had two lenses, one longer than the other, that's about all I can tell you. One of the lenses is apparently stabilised and the other one not and they were heavy. My friend suggested I use a tripod but I didn't fancy lugging it up the mountains so I didn't. The camera was on the green point and squirt setting from the moment I took it to the moment it went back again. I couldn't get the images on my memory stick so he kindly reduced them from several gigabytes each down to jpegs of a few megs each. Apart from that they are unedited.

This was the result.

Some great scenes there, I like the last one with the clouds over the mountain.
