Firstly i know there have been various anime posts about peoples favorites and so on, but i dont think this is a duplicate post.

Basically can i get some suggestions as to where to start with anime. Are there any standalone dvd's? the ones ive looked through all seem to be hundreds of episodes long! like ghost in the shell.

Ive seen Akira and ive seen some of the studio gibli stuff like kiki's delivery service and Spirited away.

Hello there HHRC,

There are a few threads in the Anime sections that go over peoples suggestions for where to start,
thread one
Thread two

This thread would fit in well in the anime forum, but I'm sure a mod will decide what is best. yes.gif

With regards to your inquiry, Ghost in the Shell was originally a movie before it became a tv series so you can pick up both the first movie and the second movie, GitS Innocence as stand alone dvd's.

Or you can download the first movie here
And The second here.

I recommend starting with Ghost in the Shell, its what got me into anime.

Hope this helps.

The first one I ever saw was Fist of the northstar, which is a movie. The first stuff I saw that really got me into anime was Final fantasy unlimited, Trigun and Rurouni Kenshin. I got hoopked into the Final fantasy one because I'm a final fantasy fan so that my be no good for you (I wouldn't knock it until you've seen it though) but Trigun is an all round excellent animated series.

I'll move this to the animation discussions forum now I've had my say.

Hokuto no Ken was first adaptated into a weekly anime series by Toei Animation. The series aired on Fuji Television from October 4, 1984 to March 5, 1987 and was given the subtitle of Seikimatsu Kyūseishu Densetsu (世紀末救世主伝説?, "Legend of the Century's End Savior") following episode 22.[15] It was immediately followed by a sequel series, titled Hokuto no Ken 2, which aired from March 13, 1987 to February 18, 1988. A combined total of 152 episodes were produced for the two series. Reruns are aired in Japan on the satellite television network
