Hello SC bru,
Big diff between Max & Pro buddy........but, if you are just kicking-out with 2D art, now would be the time to go for Photoshop rather than PSP.....also, C3/4 accommodates 3D in a simplified form.
Great start with your first one....you can bang some of your 3D meshes on your sigs that would look cool
Looking forward to seeing more from you bru

Cheers Mikal!
Actually,i am on a break from my 3d stuff. Just can't find the time and i got very bad headaches for a month due to stress. So this is a way to chill out a bit. I was thinking of what you wrote. I really would like to put some meshes in these sigs...Photoshop...hmmm why not. Will give that a try too!

Although, I have PSP I have never used it......but, in terms of user interfaces there is not a lot of difference between PSP and Photoshop...........However, when it comes to functionality Photshop is light-years ahead and is the definitive standard used by professional 2D/3D artists..
Lemme know if I can help you out with anything bru...

pretty good for one of your first attempts

I'm not a fan of big text though...it detracts from the focal imho.

Great work mate. I feel that you need to use a different text. But thats just me. The rest is really very good work.

Nice Piece Shortcircuit... I would have to agree the text is a little distractiing....

Oct 14 2009, 02:21 PM
To be honoust that is something from my scene days. As in those days there was only the logo. I tried using the Terminator font for it. I have to say that i really enjoy PS. I will try a diffrent aproach the next time. More objects and detail less logo. Cheers everyone!

yup, if ever you use or you like to use big text just make sure you wont hit your render or better yet just put it on a background. IMO
good job BTW for your first try on PS

Greetings Creative Darksiders,
Last few days i've been working on a new 3Ds MAx project..To be honoust it's one of those things i just started and did now where the hell i was headed

. Well here are 3 W.I.P's. Please tell me which looks best and any idears to maybe add.

Excellent work!
I liked the original, but before seeing the other two renders, i would have said it needed to be brightened up. You tackled that one with 2nd render, and at that one i could only notice certain reflections that weren't there that should be (primarily with the orbs and their shadows as well.) You did an exceptional job, even for not knowing where you were going with it, i really like where it ended up. Thank you for posting it. Really really enjoyed it.
shortcircuit
Dec 7 2009, 08:07 PM
Thx Balck Sheep ..Can you give some details on the reflections? As the only thing that can reflect is the water, but if you mean the orbs i might triying giving the texture a reflection

Dec 7 2009, 08:23 PM
Don't like the lighting on the 2nd and 3rd ones. I much prefer the shadowy 1st one, leaves a bit to the imagination.
Excellant work thougk
shortcircuit
Dec 7 2009, 08:31 PM
Thx Deviant. I ahve to agree. But i think i have to keep the first and the third renderer in a diffrent categorie i suppose. As the first is more a could be real kinda of renderer but the second is completly ala fantasy i suppose. I think i will work on both seperate. As the main idear was a full moon mirrored in the well.
dEVIANT
Dec 7 2009, 08:42 PM
try adding some lighting to resemble low moon light.
Black2Sheep3
Dec 7 2009, 09:59 PM
A moonlight would be a significant element to imagination yes. I would say yes to the reflection on the textures..but not too much. For lighting if your going for a mysterious look then yes a darker "moonlit" would be a good choice, or the way i see the 2nd and 3rd i see it as the 'well' has been activated in some way, which is why the orbs would be hovering. Thats my interpretation on it anyway. So i guess it boils down to how you choose to portray it.

Dec 8 2009, 08:51 AM
Thx everyone for the help. So as i said im developing two diffrent sets now. One is just a waterwell in moonlight. And the other is a magical waterwell. As suggested here is the latest wip of the moonlight waterwell.
Waterwell with moonlight.Had some problems with the renderer, got black stripes through the picture. I resolved it by more AA (4x now) Also i don't seem to be able to make the moon reflection more blurred. Also i changed the ligh colour to light blue as after doing some research that is the colour we see.
Kabuki
Dec 8 2009, 09:03 AM
I like the 2nd one but there is something wrong with the lighting part. There is a shadowstroke over the water like there is a board above the well. The one with the moonlight looks nice also but it is still to dark. I am familiar with 3D Max and the light part is the hardest. Good luck with it!
dEVIANT
Dec 8 2009, 09:11 AM
Thats much better. The well and atmosphere of the scene look just right to me now.
The only thing I would try and change is the water which doesn't look quite right, and the gold coins which look like small cheeses to me, although that's just me!
Nice work
shortcircuit
Dec 8 2009, 09:30 AM
Great Thx.
Kabuki : I noticed that too. Haven't figured out why the shadows exsist like that. But i think i, can solve it by putting the center orb a bit higher. Will take a ckack at it today.
Deviant : Yeah,i didn't have time to work on the coins yet. Better said i have to prepare a good texture for it. And the water...What would you suggest? More ripples or noise?
dEVIANT
Dec 8 2009, 09:37 AM
Not sure what to do with it. To me it looks slightly wrong, but as it's night and down a well the water would be very still. It might be the blur you mentioned earlier, as it looks more like a painted board rather than a reflection. This is why I got fed up doing this, all the tweaks and rendering drove me nuts!
Black2Sheep3
Dec 8 2009, 10:49 AM
I'm thinking the blur as well. but maybe a few ripples wouldn't hurt? I like the moonlit render a lot. very good job.
shortcircuit
Dec 8 2009, 01:25 PM
Ok so i've spend a other 2 hours working on both wells. And it gave me a headache. But ive figured out the weirdness that you see. The thing is that there can only be a reflection in a well when you look strait in to it. When you look from the side you don't see anything because of the angle of view. So when looking from the side as in the picture there is no reflection. Max kept giving me unreflected water. Until i tried a mirrior. Here there was only reflection of the well sides. So i guess i got stuck with a law of nature.
Anyway.. Now i will work on some details and on the coins. The shadows (the cross like) i will just get rid of that with Photoshop.
Kabuki
Dec 8 2009, 03:23 PM
And if you put the lighting behind the wel so that the reflection bounces to the viewer? I know it is possible I did it before but I do not know the structure of your file.

Dec 8 2009, 04:12 PM
Well i tried many things. And this is the final version. Hope you will like it. The normal moonlight well isn't finished yet though.

Looking good, although the coins (cheeses :P) in the 2nd one look like they are floating above the wall rather than sat on it.

Dec 8 2009, 05:07 PM
Thats looking amazing. Good one

Just a small suggestion would be if you could get the coins, sphere and pentacle to cast a little shadow
shortcircuit
Dec 8 2009, 05:27 PM
Thx people. Weird thing is that everything is supposed to have raytraced shadows. But i didn't use a main light. Maybe i will put one in with a soft blue tint for moon light. Those damn coins..There on the wall but they look like they bloody float. Guess i will make a few changes again today. Thx for the support!

the wellThe original concept is an excellent model. The shape and textures are really good
I actually like "The new consept try out" and "Final renderer" light on the walls but it doesn't show the water to it's best effect.
"Waterwell with moonlight" is amazing...a really eerie light
"The magic well" the lighting is really atmospheric but doesn't work with the water, which doesn't reflect the light.
"Magic" I like that very much. The close up really works. Nice reflections and textures.
Getting the shadows and reflections right on a 3D model isn't easy and a well must be the most difficult due to it's deep, inverted shape.
excellent work shortcircuit
oh and nice Christmas card
