How?

I double click the ".run" file and I get an error.

I try through the terminal (with and without SUDO) and I get command not found.

You can go to Ubuntu software centre in the applications tab on the top task bar, type in Envy in the search box. This installs the drivers you need. I also had issues installing from the Nvidia site and from the sudo cmd in the terminal. Other than this is issue and the strange font style for viewing darkside rg in firefox I have had no other isues with Koala Ubuntu.

wat happens when you double click on the '.RUN' file ?

is the file executable?? if not make it executable
using
chmod +x filename.run
and then
try sudo sh filename.run
or
./filename.run

I never thought of setting it to executable and trying that!

If I can ever get back into Ubuntu I'll give it a go :)

I think you will find that life is much easier
if you stick with the drivers that come
with the distribution
when you are comfortable with everything else
you will know how to handle xxx.run files
in Ubuntu - because they generally don't work
as one would imagine they should
and that is because this is the way
Debian has chosen to deal with it
and Ubuntu is a Debian flavor

fwiw I didn't find any real improvement
when I did get the nvidia drivers running
they had troubles, and I went back
to the distribution drivers 9800gtx
your mileage may be different

i second sticking with the distro provided drivers, nvidia has partnered up with ubuntu in some way as there are actual nvidia linux drivers available through the ubuntu menu for most embedded chips and many cards. aside from those ubuntu tells you to install good luck getting them to work without much #$%^$#$% around.

I agree with the above. Admittedly its been a while since I used Ubuntu (slackware user here) but I believe if you look in System/Administration menu (on Gnome) you can select your detected Nvidia options there, under "Nividia X server settings" (thats after you have selected them with the "Hardware Drivers" option in the same menu)
