After trying to install various nVidia drivers Ubuntu now won't get past the login screen.

As soon as I enter my username/password the screen clears (same peachy color as a login background color) and it stays like it.

Any idea how I can get Ubuntu back?

I did try booting from the CD-ROM to see if there was a repair function or even to re-install v9.04 over 8.04 but no luck - only picked up my main boot HD (didn't pick up the other 2) and said it didn't contain any operating systems which is strange as I'm running 4!!!

Im no good at this Zeb

If it's a new install redo it

if it's old save the data you want with a live CD and reinstall.

Now i get my drivers from the Restricted Drivers in the Admin section, click and done

Ubuntu was installed into a folder within Windows instead of onto a hard drive like Windows does (if that makes sense!)

I can't re-install because the install CD doesn't recognise any installed OS. It only picks up one HD out of the three and says there's nothing on it.

one of the possible explanation to that problem is having installed the wrong driver for your graphics card/ there is no grpahics card driver!!
login with command mode or safe fail mode!!! and try to get drivers for your GFX card working :)

How do I do that?

Do you know of a step-by-step tutorial?

I'm not that great with Linux...

you can go into command mode by pressing
ctrl+alt+f1/f2/f3/f4 either of them !!
and ctrl+alt+f7 will get you back to graphical mode!!

whats your graphics card model? i will see if i find solution for your problem drinks.gif

It's a GeForce 9400GT.

I've tried Envy and did get the newest (top one listed) driver installed but my maximum resolution was 640x480 (or very close) and I need to set it to 1680x1050.

Many thanks :)
