Ok, I've had Ubuntu for a few weeks, and I was updating one day and let it restart. But now when it starts to load the os, instead of going to the choices of which version I can choose from, it goes directly to a CMD like area. I cannot go further than that. Please help me

obviously if you updated the OS your previous version would have been over riden :)
are you able to login using command line ?

could it be an xserver problem
and does oathkeeper know how
to do command line linux?
If not take out your install CD/DVD
its probably the easiest way to get
up and running - data in your home
should be safe, many preferences
will be retained - but chances are
that you will be back up....
otherwise more data is required,
if you actually generated a fault
the folks at ubuntu lauchpad
are pretty good at fixing things

I have no idea how to use the CMD for windows or linux, lol. I decided to uninstall it and I'm going to reinstall later...
I'll try to keep you uptodate.
Thanks for help,

Sounds like you've hosed your GDM (graphical interface) . If you type "startx" that should start the GUI interface . If that fails, you can reinstall the GDM with: "sudo apt-get --reinstall install gdm" - of course, don't include the ""

This information might have been helpful about two weeks ago, but thank you for your input. When I decide to reinstall ubuntu I will try that out.

Naa I just gave up on it. I'm just going to use my XP with Vista Insperat on it for now, and I'm keeping my partition that I made earlier as a "closet" for some junk I download.
Thanks for your input everyone, this topic could be closed now if someone wanted to close it.
