Hello everyone, I've been trying to get hold of the four CD's required so that I can upgrade from OS 9.2 to OS 10.4 (Tiger).

My Power Mac G4 only has a CD drive and not a DVD one so it's CD's only for me.

So far I've had no luck as all the files I can find are .dmg files which OS 9.2 can't read.

Do you know of anywhere I can get hold of these four CD files?

I'd very much appreciate your help here as I've had no luck so far.

2 Questions:

1. .dmg is a native Mac format, and 9.2 CAN read them. You can't use them to install an OS with, but you can burn them to disk using Toast and when you insert the disk it will look just like an original CD or DVD to the computer, depending on the original and the media you burn it to. So... do you get an error message when you try to mount the .dmg or what?

2. Even though you have a CD drive, you should still be able to READ DVD's, just not write to them. Did you stick a movie DVD in your drive and see if it reads it? If it can't, are you sure your comp can even run Tiger?

Anyway, you should have no trouble at all burning .dmg's to disk, and that's the only format you're going to find Tiger in, so if you have trouble with them you'd better sort that out first.

If it turns out that you can burn .dmg's, join this site: MSJ. After you make 5-10 posts there, the "good" forums open up for you.You can either find, or ask for, CD's there. They don't allow torrents, and Darkside doesn't allow direct download links, so you'll have to find it for yourself there, but if you're on a Mac you need to join them anyway.

And, if you can't, or won't, there's always eBay.

I'm just wondering if CarbonLib with 9.2 can be upgraded to remain compatible with 10.4?
