I'm looking for some avant-garde metal and/or mathcore bands in the vein of SikTh to listen to. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
Badog
I heard an album recently by an American band 'Cable', but I can't remember the name of it. I didn't make it past the second track and returned it promptly to its rightful owner but it they might appeal to you if mathcore is your thing. biggrin.gif

My brother introduced me to SikTh and I liked the offbeat notes and the whole weirdness of it so I'm giving a whirl. I'll check em out Badog, cheers smile3.gif

Lordy, it's a constant learning curve, this musical lexicon...

Tell me about it. I'd never heard the word before. It used to be Rock and other stuff when I was a young un.

Never heard of them but AllMusic says that similar artists are (1) Breed 77 and (2) Beecher.

have you tried Sun O))) some say avant garde, some say drone metal either way its worth a listen - especially monoliths and dimensions

Also if you are looking for avant garde you may also like music such as Six Organs of Admittance, 65daysofstatic and tool or Mouth of the architect which falls under various genres such as post metal or prog metal but is essentially what you are after i think

I have to say that although not a heavy metal fan (too predictable and self indulgent for me), I actually rather like Tool. Innovative and lyrically original. Got a few of their CDs. Never heard of the others you mention, but I shall investigate..........

Peccatum and Arcuturs both avant garde and both are awesome
