After you have ran the ProtoWall.exe you will have to install the driver manually.

The ProtoWall Driver requires a manual install; here are the steps to take to install the driver.

1. Click Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > There you should see Local Area Connections.
2. Now Right-hand click on the Local area connections and go to Properties.
3. Here is where you need to install the ProtoWall driver.

Note:
If the ProtoWall Driver is installed in the window under "This connection uses the following items" you will need to uninstall it first if you have never installed ProtoWall previously. You can do this by highlighting the ProtoWall Driver and hitting the uninstall tab. Once the driver is uninstalled you can continue with the ProtoWall manual driver install.

4. Now hit Install.
5. The Select Network Component type window should pop up.
6. Highlight Service in that window, where it gives you 3 options,
1. Client
2. Service
3. Protocol
7. Hit Add.
8. The Select Network Client window should pop up.

Note:
In this window do not highlight the ProtoWall driver that is in the window and Proceed to step #9

9. On that screen you will have to hit the Have Disk button.
10. Now a new window should pop up, labeled "Install from Disk"
11. On that screen hit the Browse button.
12. You will need to browse to C:/Program Files/Dudez/ProtoWall and choose the driver for your Operating System,

For example:
If you have an xp operating system choose the xp_driver folder and if you have win2k choose the win_2k driver folder.
When you get to the xpdriver folder you will see 2 files:
1. ProtoWall
2. Protowall_MP

13. You will need to choose the ProtoWall.inf NOT the ProtoWall_mp.inf entry.
14. Once you did highlight the ProtoWall.inf you will need to hit the Open button.
15. At this Point you will get a digital warning popup asking you if you want to install an unsigned driver. You need to hit Continue Anyway for these warnings, Most users get 4 of these warnings.
16. At this point you should lose net connection while the driver installs but will be only for a few seconds.
17. The driver should now be installed.

If this does not work Please try the following:

1. Uninstall the ProtoWall Driver in network connections again.
2. Now in MyComputer browse to C:/ProgramFiles/Dudez/Protowall/ and rename the xp_driver folder to xpdriver without the _ between xp and driver and try the manual install once more.

So Mr paranoid are you using Protowall now? If so how does it compare to PG2??
Legion
unsure.gif "who said i was paranoid" unsure.gif

I think its ok, it seems to use less resources than PG2 and at least Bluetacks lists are more regularly updated with BLM of course but i have not as yet had "error contacting url" and BLM also incorporates an ip checking so its easier to block hit and runners or Bit comet users, if your using Utorrent i would say its better as there is no real way to ban an ip like there is in Azureus.

Don't get me wrong you could of course use BLM with PG2 which i tried but found hard to get my head round but using BLM with Protowall seems to me much easier if you are on Utorrent, of course i am not an expert, this is only my opinion, and the fact that i am paranoid lol scare.gif

one day you will get some really bad conflicts on that box mate

so where do you stand on the debate that ipfilter is enough?
im using ipfilter and blocking 298217 ip's, is this not enough?
BugZ
i use both ipfilter.dat and pg2

i followed this guide yesterday, and my comp went crazy, everytime i tried to start FireFox, my machine restarted, i have uninstalled Protowall atm, but will try again after i have finished encoding Matrix Revolutions

Thanx Legion

To be honest........ i am on the fence with that one ....... I am a bit like you, see a new app that looks interesting an just have to try it........ can't help myself. blush2.gif

I think as far as ip blocking the safer you are the better... but at what cost?? more ip's to block must mean more resources... more ram... more CPU, maybe be only a tiny amount but it all adds up.

Fair enough they all are capable of blocking the same if sourced correctly, p2p lists, blacklists, gov etc but then again these ip's that are blocked know this, so they will look for ways round it. Remember a court case with google some months ago where the US government was forcing all major companies such as google to hand over all data and ip's what and when was searched for......... publicly google said sod off but did they really? paranoia is just a higher form of awareness, i dont claim to be a tech head i am far from it......... would love to be but just not enough hours in the day and i hate reading lol.

Back to the question at hand blush2.gif i think if you are running an ipfilter then for the norm it is ok but if you are up/downloading full time 24/7 you may want to think again. But! with it i found that the site you get the last update from some times is slow to re update then another site posts and update and has less ip's. Currently there only seems to be Bluetack that is dedicated to this type of security..... but of course i may be wrong this is just my opinion at this moment in time.

As a footnote i will add"but what if bluetack is not in the interest of security? and the sole interest is that of invasion?"
