Powertop is recommending I enable the HPET timer to save a few processor wakeups but doesn't say how to do this.Does anyone know how to enable the timer in Ubuntu 9.10? I've been searching and I can't find any information on this.

Just done a quick google, seems like Hpet is enabled by default?

It isn't showing it as enabled when I use Powertop. I know it used to cause all kinds of hang ups and freezes when it was first introduced, so most manufactures just left it disabled.

Just to double check i ran grep hpet /proc/timer_list in terminal and Hpet was not shown.

On the Thinkwiki website it states to add hpet=force to the boot options. However, ubuntu 9.10 uses grub2 and I have no idea how to edit those files. They are completely different from grub legacy.
