I've tried KDE a few times and never liked it as much as Gnome. Today I had a look at the Xubuntu live cd using the XFCE desktop, and I was quite suprised by it.

Anyone else tried it?

I've tried it, and it's great for computer's with dating hardware. Plus I really like Thunar, the file manager.

Gnome only uses about 80mb of ram when it's loaded on my laptop. XFCE is a bit lower, by about 20 mb but gnome just looks better to me.

I can fully understand any dislike of KDE. Ive never liked it. Whilst Xfce is IMHO a cut down Gnome, for my use it serves its purpose well and I have no issues.

Im currently running Elive which is Enlightenment and Im very impressed as was I when I tried #!CBL which i believe uses fluxbox.

Since Gnome is moving more and more towards Mono dependency, Ive been looking for a better replacement. Shame, since Ive always loved Gnome.
