welcome2ds.gif Greets fellow Darksiders and Creative Souls,

So lately something has been bugging me. I am a old skool user and in the old days on the c64 (scene) i was a "painter" so i made graphics and drew covers. Now in those days the logo was the center of the work. So we always made big or atleast eye atracting logo's. I can even put up a example if you want. But now when im working on new graphics and also when i browse the Darkside mostly people say don't oversize the logo. So now my question is :

1. What do you prefer? Big or small logo's?
2. Is your consept to atract the eye to the logo or more of a compesition? Do you want your artwork to tell a story?

Hope i could explain myself.

Cheers

hmm if its a cover for a rockbands album then i like a big nice logo instead of a image with a small logo on the bottom.. but i also make alot of logos and play with text styles alot so maybe we are just ''oldschool'''hahha

If it's an advertising banner etc, then, I think the logo should take precedence eg Darkside logo
If it's a forum signature, the concept should be more noticeable than the text as the artwork represents the member.

Hmm , i agree with both stands. When the name is important then yes then we probably could use big logos and as Fearie puts it when we symbolical reperesent a name with art work then using a smaller logo could establish a link between the art work and the logo. So it depends on the messege we wan to give right?
faerie
that's what I think...what about everyone else?

Eh? No idear anyone? Don't be shy..I promise i will not slam you on the BBQ for having a opinion.....

I'm a believer in the artwork....somebody once commented my name was too big....and i changed it....then on another forum they said it should catch the eye so i changed it again....now, i think it depends on the whole peice really....the graphic will tell you whats needed....any graphic artist knows what I mean....am I right?

and yes, i too believe if its something like a forum header logo should be prominent and eye catching....but on something like a movie cover or cd...it really depends on the feel of the work, for me anyway

Thx. Wyte...Ok people more opinions please...Or i will start hunting for BBQ meat!

In the scene back then (and following on with the Amiga demoscene) many groups and some sceners were known by three letter abbreviations (TSL=The Silents, RSI=Red Sector Inc, PDX=Paradox, PHA=Phenomenon etc.) so it was much easier to make a logo for a group and make it stand out.

I think the size of logo, where it's placed etc. all depend on how much other detail there is on whatever it is you're creating. Too much detail might need a large logo whereas small amount of detail and a small logo with a fair bit of resting space between them can look effective but I think it's all about balancing the content of whatever you're creating so it doesn't look lop-sided (although this can work in some instances)

Nice one Zeb. Your right and mostly because of the limitations (well the c64 did) there were less details.
