Hi all.

I didn't really know what to think after having seen what I've seen, namely the review of RPGfan which can be accessed HERE.

All I can say is that my excitement level went from 100 to like 80.

You should note that Final Fantasy X, which was and still IS one of my top 3 FFs ( 7,9,X ), received STELLAR critics despite the fact that it was linear as hell.

I would like you to give me your opinions on this issue as I am a desperate fan who feels a little down ATM. Thank you!

Most games are linear so I don't see how that would be a negative point dntknw.gif From the thoughts posted on here, a lot of folks have different FF episodes as favourites, so maybe the reviewer just has a different FF appetite at the moment smile3.gif

Don't let one review dampen your spirits Butterball , I'm sure FFXIII will be up to Square's usual high standards a013.gif a013.gif

Let's hope so. Nevertheless, the game's gorgeous as hell and the battle system, à la Advent Children, looks awesome.

I thought FFX was awesome as well, despite the linearity and it's in my top 3 as well lol (7, 8, 10). I'm sure 13 will be nothing short of amazing. Keep the faith lol

I'm quite looking forward to this one. I not played any of the 'classic' FF's but I have played my shre of JRPG's so i think it could be interesting.

Aren't all games fundamentally linear? All points lead to the same end eventually, all that differs is the order you take to reach the 'point of no return' that signals the end game in most 'non-linear' games.

There are games around with different endings; for example, GTA-IV has 2 possible endings, though they sortof amount to the same thing. But each story must come to a finale, so I guess you're right from that perspective. Although, if I'm not mistaken, Soldier Of Fortune 2 had a 'random mission generator' that defies the 'your quest is at an end' logic -- the fray never stopped in that one grin.gif

As ADL said they are becoming less linear , I believe Heavy Rain has numerous endings, as too did Fallout 3 and Dragon Age :Origins.

Well, after a good 8 hours in, that game ROCKS. I simply don't understand why critics are so disappointed with it. The plot, the characters AND the battle system all nicely fit together to make a pretty sweet FF. YES I know that the first 25 hours are linear and the levels ( or Crystanium levels ) are capped but I don't mind that, like, AT ALL. Also take in note that this one is by far the hardest FF you'll play. A nice wind of change. Don't listen to those Fanboys haters whinin' about the auto-battle thing. The battle pace is so fast that you'll need it and you'll learn to love it. You'll also need to manage and to swith your paradigms alot depending on the situation so there's really a lot of management to do. Remember that FFXII is also VERY automated. Fanboys just don't know what they want anymore anyway.

I was right about the fact that it resemble a lot like FFX, linear and all, but it's okay cuz the story sucks you in so much you don't care 'bout the rest. That game is underrated anyway. The only honest review so far is the IGN one IMO. They gave it 8.9 ( say 9 while we're at it ). Just go ahead and buy it. Remember, Final Fantasy game were always about innovation. They never looked alike from one title to another. FFXIII is just that : Innovation. For better or worse, be the judge of that yourselves!

Oh, and BTW, you"ll love Sazh!

I should be playing FFXIII within the week. My GF pre-ordered it Aug '08 (no joke) for my bday that year and paid for it last night, so it should be here soon. Can't wait. As long as it's not uber linear, I reckon i'll be happy

Linear: To a degree ,the story splits into 3 distinct , and seperate tellings, so far, (only 19 hours in biggrin.gif ) ,the storyline is compulsive, just like a good book , you don't want to put it down. The graphics are sumptuous, as befits any F.F game, and the gameplay is easy to come to terms with, but difficult to master, though once you have there are countless hours of entertainment , all wrapped up in a itty bitty box.

Overall well worth the £39 spent and a glorious 9.5/10 a013.gif a013.gif a013.gif a013.gif
