hello all, i'm 14, i listen to rock and metal.
I hate how most teenagers do not appriciate who influenced the bullshit that they listen to.
Within the genre pop , hip hop etc, all they sing about is sex, women and dancing lol. it is just persistant crap.
Another thing with pop is that after about 2 weeks of a song coming out, nobody listens to that ever again.
slightly exadurated lol saevilw.gif

btw, like the name biggrin.gif

i know how you feel TWSS, i remember when i was about 14, i hated all the music everyone seemed to love, so i went and learned about the older music, bad company, whitesnake, led zeppelin, bob seger etc. Everyone used to make fun of me for listening to it cause it was wierd to them but i would just laugh cause at least i could understand the meaning behind the music i listened to, these days i'm not sure if there even is a message unsure.gif

I find it harder and harder to listen to new music. Unless it's by a band I keep track of I don't usually go out on a limb. IMO Disney and others are saturating the music market because they want to expand their revenue by giving all its stars an album also.

Kids today do not have an issue that defines them such as the Cold War, Civil rights, WWII. Therefore there is not a message that needs to be communicated to the listener. Also, today most people are bombarded with sounds, images, etc to the point of sensory overload. With this overload, the person needs to have something playing, tv, music whatever, otherwise something feels off. Therefore I believe the music suffers, it becomes background noise. This decline of music to background noise, also inhibits the creativity for music in the forms of lyrics. In effect squishing any hope of a message reaching the would be audience. The labels themselves don't care whether the music inspires people or moves them, as long as the album itself sells.

Why aren't you writing articles loki? Best expression of current music i could've hoped for.

I pretty much agree with everyone here, i also stick to older bands (AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Metallica, KISS, Whitesnake, etc). There ARE some gems to be found with recent music though, just takes time and patience to find it.

Your very right, now mostly its just bullshit sounds made in ProTools with some words related to sex and more bs....
Good to know though there's a couple people like you and I that appreciate REAL music that takes REAL Talent.

When I was growing up, as I mentioned in another thread started by TWSS, I was listening to Elvis, Buddy, The Everly Brothers etc, as well as a lot of blues - Big Bill Broonzy et al., so as I hit my late teens, it was all about the Stones, the Beatles, the Doors, the Who, Jimi Hendrix etc etc etc.

So much good music in those days. We were spoiled for choice.

That lasted until, oh, the late 70s, I guess. From that point, for me, it was all downhill. It was like the music scene had run out of energy, and most of what I was hearing was real dross. I kind of withdrew from the popular music scene and got into classical and jazz more. I'd basically given up on modern music.

However, my youngest daughter (who is now 21), who spent her youth borrowing my albums (Hendrix, Love, Free etc) a few years ago started burning and sending me recent stuff that she was into, and it has re-kindled my interest. There really are some great bands out there from the past decade. Bands like Massive Attack, Placebo, Beck, Sneaker Pimps / IAMX, Dreadzone, Moloko, Lamb, White Stripes / Raconteurs to name but a few. They are fresh and original. a013.gif

So sure, the stuff you hear played on the radio is mostly forgettable dross, but all is not lost! smile3.gif There are still people out there making good music! biggrin.gif

True, you just have to take the time to look for those gems.

I know exactly what you mean I live in a house that is always filled with this kind of music.
But when i was younger i listend to the gangsta rap and stuff like that because that was the music that was around me.
The n i went to middle school and hung out with people that listened to classic rock, metal, etc.. so that was great I feel i love with it and that's what pretty much influenced my taste in music.

and that is true of all genre. i.e rap, rock, r&b, dancehall, classical.

cause for myself....i listen to the new stuff....but wen i say new i mean like 90's .....artists from those days comin up and makin it big now. for knowin where the music has come from, i listen to bob marley, peter tosh, lucky dube, burning spear. but i mo listen to the newer age, i.e bounty killer, movado, sizzla, anthony b, beres hammond, etc.

same for rap..... i cant even tell u who is singin wat these days in rap. for rap i dont listen to anything after wen 50cent pop on d scene. i mo do oldschool - snoop doog, nwa, dr dre, tupac, luniz, pharsyde,

but the perception that all new music is bad i dont agree wit......mayb alot of it is.. but not all. u hav to listen to the lyrics of the songs and get the message. if not why even bother listenin to it.

And if you just want to listen to music just take the lyrics out of the music and check out some post-rock.
Almost all post-rock that I have listened to is amazing!
