It was either a pong clone on my cousin's atari, or probably a formula one racing game on my neighbour's Macintosh so yeah, I started gaming on an Apple!
That racing game is so old that I can't even find screenshots of it -- just imagine two rows of white blocks (much like Pong's blocks) that form the outline of a road; that was all you got to see. The joystick/controller had a rotating disc which actually didn't make it any easier to steer as the blocks were so far apart and offered so little visual perspective that you simply lost track of where the road was supposed to be anyway.
Funnily enough, the neighbours didn't let me play anymore after I [allegedly!] melted their xerox machine by leaving it on

The smell of xerox was divine in those days

My first game was Space Invaders on one of the old Ataris that had the fantastic wood look finish (2600 I think). Quality. Shame I left it on over night and fried the bugger. Ooops!

I actually remember seeing an 'echo the dolphin' review (may even have been in a PC mag) that was so full of praise that I really wanted to play the game myself (but never got to) -- that's how I remember that one

The 1st console (1975?) I had was with Pong and some other games, basically all based on some white squares on a black screen. But it also had a rifle, where one could shoot those moving white squares (on the black background).
The first computer (1982) I had was a
ZX-81 and my 1st game (3D racing game) wasn't sold on tape, but was printed in a magazine and one had to type in some hundred lines with hex values...

There were predecesors to video games in the late 60's when I was very small. The first game I played was a racing game that used cellophane (sp?) images as digital images weren't around yet. The fist computerized video game I played was pong. I liked pinball best, though.

What an awsome thread, it really sent me back to my childhood. I remember sitting in my friends living rooom when he introduced me to the Atari . It wasn’t long after that I had my own Atari and used to play, gawd, im struggling to remember the game itself but it was a 2 player tank shoot em up. Much later, I eventually persuaded my mum to buy me a spectrum 48 – my first game being Jetpac. That was really awsome at the time. I think the developers were called Ultimate. At the time, they became frontrunners for top quality Spectrum games – er, was there – Underworld? Brill. But there were so many other cool games for the Spectrum- how about the Lords of Midnight? The Hobbit?
I also had a BBC B, well, it wasn’t mine but, I would play Elite for hours, I think my status was Deadly in the end.
Years on from that and I had an Amiga, there was a racing game—ATR- All Terrain Racing. A two dimensional birds eye view of a racetrack. Me and my mates spent hours racing each other pinching up the track times on that..
First post Btw – couldn’t resist posting.

Thanks for the posts - brings back some great memories... I had Pong that plugged straight into the TV via an antenna connection - I remember it probably cost about £20 around 1979!!
My mate had an Atari console so we played Missile Command, Space Invaders and some kind of Tank game in a maze - can't remember the name...
My first ever game computer I owned was a Sinclair Spectrum and got Jet Pack free with it.. What a bargain!!
Owned an old 2nd hand BBC Micro purely to play Elite..!!
I then rose to the heady heights of Amiga 2000 ownership... Best games were Flashback & Syndicate... I still have it in the attic..!!

The first game I ever played was when I was 3 or 4. It was a yellow hand held power rangers game. It was shaped like a gameboy and had two different cartridges I could put in and play. Unfortunately I can't remember what it was called.
The first true video game I ever played was when I was 5 years old. I got the N64 for my birthday and got Super Mario 64.
