many of my ps3 fanboyesque pals have been bleating on about this game and how it will change the face of gaming to such a degree i borrowed a ps3 and rented the game and boy was i impressed.................................well no actually i wasnt, sure the graphics at times are superb and the premise behind the game is interesting, an investigation and the fact that you cant go back and change things i liked that!
BUT there is were the good points end incredibly awkard controls that are hampered by fixed camera angles that when changed alter the perspective of the controls meaning getting to that object you wanna check out that is lying in the middle of a uncluttered space becomes as difficult as walking a balance beam in Mirrors Edge.
Another annoyance is the pointless activities that you have to go through which while at first had their appealas a novelty and i let slide because i thought they served the function of getting me used to the control specifics but as time wore on i realised they were not decreasing in number and infact were the meat of the game, things like brushing your teeth, cooking eggs and turning the ignition key in the car, boring.
lack of being able to look around is a pain and frustrating i understand that they are trying to cinematographize(did i invent that word or is it real?) but surely some leeway could have been given.
Finaly my conclusion is this.
this is merely a succession of choices which have a tree of results which lead to another tree of results all the way down the line with basic playability(on albiet a slightly more sophistcated set of controls) of dragons lair, in other words cgi hit a load of buttons reward more cgi.
very dissapointing game.
