Which is your favourite anime?
I love cheesy vampire movies...so I equally love Hellsing.
Synopsis:
Deep within England exists a group dedicated to protecting the citizenry from the undead. It is known as the Hellsing Organization, led by the extremely cool and calculated Integra Wingates Hellsing. The Hellsing Organization has a secret weapon that gives them the edge when fighting against various creatures of the night -- the legendary vampire Alucard(Arucard).
I like Alucard's easy Baroque style and if you like gore and vamps... this is your type of anime.

Bleach - The best serie that is available right now
Eyeshield 21 - A relaxing serie about american football
Blood+ - A new one that I haven't seen that mutch of, but i seems good.

I've fallen in love with a few - Cowboy Bebop, Big O, and Full Metal Alchemist. I don't really know why I love them, I just do. I think it's mostly the stories. I haven't really sat down to fully absorb Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, but I've watched a bit over my husband's shoulder and really like the style (plus I loved the first movie - haven't seen the second one yet).
OMG I can't believe I almost forgot! My most very favorite in the world is Aeon Flux. I guess it isn't usually considered anime, but I've found it filed under that label before. I LOVE Peter Chung's style and the stories are totally out there, so naturally I love them. (yes, I've seen the movie, loved it, but it did lack a certian edge that I love about the animation)
Reign: The Conqueror is a close second favorite. Peter Chung's take on the Alexander mythos. Fabulous!
...btw, Hellsing looks nifty! I'll have to check it out. Have you seen the Vampire Hunter D movies? I just saw the second one not too long ago and I think I liked it even better than the first one...

You are most likely to acquire OVAs at dedicated anime sites, for example,
boxtorrents. There are quite a number of dedicated sites

FLCLfor some people this is too fast and too weird... for me it was the first anime I ever saw, and it totally spoiled me...
it's short, 6 chapters. so you can watch it in one afternoon, yet everytime I see it, I get more of the storyline. There's a lot of little details that you really don't get to see the first time around. And the soundtrack is just pure perfection.
This is my first and favorite anime.
Ghost in the Shell (movie), Ghost in the Shell Innocence (movie), Ghost in the shell SAC (26ep series) and Ghost in the Shell 2nd Gig (26ep series) are a close second... The first movie, altough dated, has a entrancing storyline and a very consistent cyberpunkish world. The second movie is the worst of the four, yet it has some of the most astounding visuals I've seen, I still get a physical reaction to the brainhack scene... The first and second series are prequels to what happens in the movies, but just as it was with starwars, I'd start with the movies and then watch the series... things fall into place beautifully.

I loved the GITS series. Absolutely beautiful and sounded excellent. Old school wise gotta be Captain Harlock or Galaxy Express.
But I will tell you this. I saw one episode of Samurai Champloo on AS and liked it. Then I went and ordered the collection online, watched it and fell in love. A wonderfully done series. Awesome characters, great music, the colors!!! Just an all around good anime. I suggest this to anyone. Don't watch the AS version. It's been Turnerized and sucks. Watch it the way it should be watched.

Favorite series = Samurai 7

Naruto is up there for me, because even if it is slightly cliche, it's amazingly drawn and has an intresting plot. I agree with Hellsing being up there also. So I suppose Naruto is my current favorite.
Runner Ups:
Full Metal Alchemist (Most plot twists I've ever wittnessed in an anime)
Cowboy Bebop
Samarui Champloo
Hellsing
And Dragonball (It's a classic people)

If you want real teen angst of the unbearable kind then look no further that Daniel Clowes. Best known for his comic series Eightball but those with the unmissable status would be:
Ghost World (made into a film)
Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron (if anyone reads it and has an opinion on the acutely abstract and surreal nature and thoughts to its meaning I'd love the discussion)

Everyone has mentioned some fine anime. Naruto has been one of my favourites, but the last 30-40 weeks of filler has driven me to the manga. The one that stands out the most for me is
Ebichu the Housecleaning Hamster...
Gotta luv that wacky, tongue in cheek, Japanese Humour

Big O is one of my favorite shows period, anime or whatever.
It's a show with just enough ambiguity to make you want to know more but not with too many unanswered questions to make you feel you’re on some meaningless wild goose chase. It's one of the few show in my opinion that begs to be dissected to the point of malpractice.

Doraemon, most Studio Ghibli films and Initial D. Naruto is also a guilty pleasure of mine.

Excel Saga is absolutely insane, not one of my faves but recommended nonetheless. Fist of the North Star is mind blowing, as is Akira (both versions). Never really got into any anime series per se, yet ive been watching japanese animation for over 10 years, but i do enjoy the occasional dip into Gundam Wing and anything with Mechs (they are the future guys!!).

I have to admit I've never been into anime, but Bleach got me hooked. I'm excited to hear Adult Swim picked it up for Fall. I hope they don't screw it up in translation. I still prefer the Japanese voices and reading the subtitles. I even ordered the Viz manga. They have a couple of things that aren't in the cartoon version.
I'm hooked, fa shore. Bleach has my vote.

I didn't read through all of them but i saw alot of the same anime mentioned. One of my favorites is Vampire Hunter D. I thought the movie was awesome. Another really good one which is semi new is Howl's moving castle. Some of my other favorites are the final fantasy movies and Dragonball Z Gt. My 11 yr old son watches alot of the newer anime shows out there but they just don't grab me like the older ones.

Full metal alchemist.
Besides the fact that the main charcter who does most of the work is 4feet tall, and the largest most intimidating character (my own opinion) is a 5year old's soul in a metal suit.. I like the indepth play ons of it. For example, how the majority of the characters names have thought into them, not just a label that sounds cool and spiffy (The humonculai (sp) being named after the seven deadly sins.) I also found it's relation to science (although definitly fictional and never possible) to be pretty awsome.

My friend told me about an anime called "Fruit Basket." She's on the same level of thinking twoards anime as I am, yet she seems to prefer Fruit Basket over Fullmetal Alchemist. Can anyone shed some light on what this anime is? (I can't get an explination out of her.. she's... hard to work with
