As it seems to be getting rave reviews, I was wondering if anyone has tried it?

Ubuntu 10.04 Beta1
djakasha
Nope, I'm waiting for the final version. Reviews have been quite good. Really looking forward to trying 10.04

Ive had a look and whilst Im not a regular Ubuntu user I was quite impressed. The new theme has made it look far more professional, the boot times are faster (if thats possible) and there appears to be more stable integration with Ubuntu One..

Most of those silly games are gone.

Drawbacks......

Removal of GIMP in favor of a unstable video editing piece of software.

Increase in dependency on Mono and its associated bloat.

All in all not a bad distro, although I can see Canonicals role being more for a new user, rather than the experienced one. Thats not a bad thing, but except for the much simpler install process (and the trademark easy installation of proprietary drivers) I cannot see what this offers over my distro of choice at the moment.

I installed the 32 Bit desktop version on one of my "spare" (aka test) notebooks. Some minor quirks, but everything I need works.

But I will wait for the final release before I switch my main systems to it.

Have tried on a Vaio laptop for about a week. Ubuntuone completely broken for me, otherwise some ureadahead problems occasionally but fast boot. Not bad for a Beta1
Flatline
Sorry I'm just not really into Pokemon ShutUp.gif

Installed it this afternoon, so far i'm pretty impressed. Photoshop Portable CS4 runs much better than it did on 9.10.
pengy_666
Yeah I have been running I for around 24 hours, I have upgraded and the "aero style theme" is not present on my system?

I haven't really found many issues to report.
dEVIANT
This is going to be a great system with the final release, but it doesn't feel as responsive as 9.10, and it doesn't run as smooth either (for me anyway)

That's why they call it beta tongue.gif

Beta 1 was a bit too buggy for me. Two new bugs logged by myself to launchpad was where I jumped. It looks very promising though.
The second beta is this thursday the 8th followed by the RC on the 22nd and final release on the 29th. If yhe bugs and general niggles are resolved this is going to be a nice LTS release. But for now it's not quite there.
dEVIANT
Beta 2 is coming soon, here's the schedule for those interested.

The Final Release is out on my birthday, nice little gift for me smile3.gif
pengy_666
The upgrade worked better, I did a full install and it was very buggy.

Agreed its majorly slow on bootup especially. I was not overly impressed. The one good thing was the out the box iPhone support

I've got 2 x.64's running it
one was the upgrade - had some bugs as I use Debian Multimedia
and it couldn't handle those
one was a fresh install - it has had no problems
its been more stable than win7 for me

I tried it again at the weekend, this time upgrading from a fully updated 9.10 installation and it ran very smoothly with no issues. I much prefer the new theme they use, It's getting very close now to the point where i'd be happy leaving Win 7 behind.
dEVIANT
Just an update, beta 2 is now out, you can upgrade directly from 9.10 by entering:

update-manager -d

in a terminal.
dEVIANT
Another update, the Release Candidate is now available by upgrading as above, or grabbing an iso here.

Im getting sick of this Beta.

Its so buggy. I can't even update it without issues. NOT AUTHENTICATED WTF!

My laptop gets so hot. I have kernel crashes allt he time. At least 3 times an hour.

The ACPI isn't working well.

I have had about enough. I have a load of stuff on my laptop I need to backup before I re-install karmic koala!

DONT RUN BETA
dEVIANT
Bring back 8.10, that was a solid system.

I'm running the 64bit RC and its runs as well as Karmic. The only issue I have is Firefox occasionally becomes unresponsive and the screen dims for a few seconds.

I'm tempted to try Kubuntu. KDE does look very nice, but it's not something i've sent much time with.

10.04 final was released today! I usually only try the beta's and rc's from the CD, so it this will be first actual time using it. Downloading now. The official torrents can be found here ( I think they are faster than the mirrors ).

Probally
ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso
or
ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso

Thanks for the link rwt911, I'll be back with my opinion once i install it on my t40

Ok on a whim I ran 10.04 off a USB on my quad core machine and it blew me away at the speed change vs. Windows 7. yahoo.gif And it uses only 310 mb of ram at startup? I can get that down by turning off unwanted apps and services though. I may be moving this to my primary OS.

Just as a side thought, does anyone feel that this release holds the user's hand too much. It feels too automated to me for some reason. whoknows.gif
dEVIANT
I thought i'd do a clean install from CD rather than upgrade through terminal.

I'd just removed the old partitions and set new ones up and the bloody disc failed!
rwt911
Same thing happened to me when doing a clean install of 9.10, kernel panic during installation! cray.gif shout.gif

I tried it two or three more times.

Hope everything goes well for you dEVIANT drinks.gif

That torrent link gets me a corrupt torrent file for some reason. Try this one: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors#bt

All up and running now, although Firefox still has the occasional hang.

Once you get sorted why not try Gnome 3
