What are some of the best Sci-Fi movies that you've seen recently that not many people know of?

Although I may be reamed out for it, I've recently seen 'The Island' and I thought the first half was awesome, but then it kinda just sucked stounge.gif

The Island was pretty good until they started jumping off buildings without even getting a scratch slookani.gif

Star Trek is the best recent sci-fi movie I've seen, and one of the best overall since Batman - The Dark Knight. Gattaca (1997) was a great movie too, and certainly discussed prejudice far better than District 9 did.

StarTrek was just so GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD gives a chance to completely revamp the series and films
as eveything that has happened in the StarTrek Universe before the destruction of Kirks father's ship the USS Kelvin
is now mute and can be rewritten without any one complaining as now the new universe is split from the orginal time line
so looking forward to the next................ tease.gif

Gattaca sorted film dude............ yahoo.gif

i enjoyed district 9 but know what you mean it was like an apartheid in southafrica with a scifi slant
but still very well done.........

I think that star trek and sunshine were two great movies but, moon was something we don't see everyday!

All the time, Matrix Trilogy for me. I, Robot is the other way of machinery evolution, along with Ghost in the Shell movie 1-2, esp 2.
There are many more with different approach which i cannot remember.
Moreover, the fault, system flaw and etc... like Minority report.

I have to agree with Shadowman, serenity is one of the better sci-fi flick ive seen

My recent favorite Sci-fi flicks: In no particular order

Pandorum (has good story, plus all the sci-fi you expect from this genre)
Serenity (Has the action, the sci-fi, the plot, good acting...makes you want to see a part 2 & 3)
Star Trek (Was really surprised at how well this was done. DO NOT miss this...even if you dont like Star Trek!)
2012 (Not as apocalyptic as I expected.. more of a drama/thriller in sci-fi genre. Good movie though)
Legion (Given bad reviews, but the reviewers were blind! Good movie... just wish it was a little longer..for more story)

ALL TIME GREAT: Blade Runner. If you haven't seen it; STOP EVERYTHING and get it!

Be advised - I had to walk out of the theater and demand my money back for Legion.
Ew.

Also there's an indie flick missing from this thread - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1071804/
Ink

the only reason anyone ever heard of this movie was due to it's torrenting on the Internet - they did not have an advertising budget at all.
Even the makers of the film were astonished at it's success.
Heard about it on torrentfreak - otherwise I would have missed this well executed little gem.

And fairly awesome considering the budget they worked with.

I'm looking for a few good movies - and so far Hollywood is leaving me dry.
ratz
a good movie i enjoyed was city of ember
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0970411/
only problem i had with it was that it could of been a little bit longer to explain the story a little more

Serpent and the Rainbow. Classic 'B' movie, boarderline sci-fi tho.

If that doesn't count.....

Def-Con 4.

Regardless of whether you can class it as sci-fi, it's an excellent movie.
