Reading about Jim Marshall's recent passing (R.I.P.), the photographer you'll know from the above Johnny Cash picture, or the ones with Jimi Hendrix setting fire to his guitar... I was wondering what other interesting rock photographers are out there?

In Belgium, I think rock magazine HUMO's oldest photographer Herman Selleslags might have some pictures that you may have seen already, but it's not all rock-related.

Annie Leibovitz had some pretty famous Rolling Stone covers over the years. She also toured with The Rolling Stones as well...

I'll add Anton Corbijn, the Dutch photographer/director who is best known for his photographs and music videos for lots of big names, and who also directed Control (2007) about Joy Division (he made the famous pics of them in the tunnel/on the bridge and also did the video for Atmosphere). And Front 242's weird Headhunter video which was the result of a misunderstanding: he thought the track was called 'egghunter' biggrin.gif

I used to be friendly with a guy called Walt Davidson, a photographer of many of the early punk stars and events from 1976-77-ish. Used to see lots of his work in Sounds and the NME back then. havent heard from him in many a year though.

Another lensmen I can remember who made a name and captured the style and feel etc from the punk era and beyond are Ray Stevenson and Mick Mercer

Cool punk pics there! a013.gif

A couple more:
Another dutchman: Rob Verhorst who also had his cameras stolen like Ray Stevenson. And American female photographer Ebet Roberts, who started with the New York punk scene, apparently.

Around these Pacific north west parts, Michael Lavine is a pretty heavy name when it comes to what was happening musically on the west coast in the alt/punk/grunge/garage band scenes of the 80's/90's.

This seems to be an ad for a book of his, but gives a bit of insight into the kind of stuff he was into. Still doing it, I believe, though the music has changed...
