As the title states, do we really need religion?
In most countries the ten commandments are what society is now based on, if you fail to follow these commandments then you'll suffer the consequences - Jail time, Fines, Death penalty, Exile etc.
At the moment I'm on the fence with my legs about to jump onto the atheist side. The reason I'm not very religious person is quiet personal and don't feel like expressing it at this point.
What I find irritating is that certain parties pick and choose which religious aspects to act on. For instance there are passages in the bible that approve of drug use and yet they're banned in all countries except the small portions of the globe where medicinal/recreational purposes are blind eyed.
So, do we need religion to govern out lives or is it just something for Governments to keep us in line?
