Microsoft have renamed Project Natal and are showing it off again at this years E3.

Here's a video showing a couple of games.

Looks interesting.

Here's Sony's version.
Also looks good, but I prefer MS's with you hands free.

Looks interesting. Cant understand the name-change though. Personally i think Natal sounds much better.

Really not convinced with Sony's version. Looks like a black Wii-mote with a pink ping pong ball stuck on top. I had the eye toy which uses the same camera and the results were disappointing.

I can see an issue with MS's though, I imagine you'll need a flat colour behind you (no patterny curtains) and no people/pets moving around

Sony's motion controller looks like a pair of maracas.

Really unsure how this 'Gaming revolution device' will turn out practically? Can't wait to try Street Fighter using it :P.

True "project Natal" sounded better than kinect, but hey if its worth the cash who cares right?

most of the games i enjoy playing have characters doing things that

A. require using of equipment like a steering wheel or weapons. i dont want to pretend to hold an invisable steering wheel, thats less realistic than a controller where i actually get physical feedback and the thought of standing pretending to hold a gun is laughable

B. either i cant do or i cant do as well as they eg sports and fighting games. i love playing the golf and footy games but my backswing sucks and i have never been able to perform an overhead scissor kick but with a controller im a legend on both counts, and some of the moves in say tekken would be impossible to do never mind string together like you would with a controller, i cant do a head height flying kick! can you? obviously they will have some system in place that does not require you to perfectly mimic or perform these actions but still........

C. dont want to do while playing a video game ie. running and jumping around the living room if i wanted to do that i would go outside and do it in my house i actively discourage that kinda behaviour as things tend to get broken!!!

sure it may have a handful of novelty appeal games like the wii has (i quite enjoy the bowling)but really after one or 2 of these i think i would end up using it purely to navigate the dashbord, so unless this is goin on sale at £20-30 im unlikely to buy it although i suspect it will be more like £120-200 region.
hope to be proved wrong though

^^^^^ regretablly agreed. I don't like the way the console game development is heading these days, however with that being said I do like the new technologies, but I look at them as a new game add-on which is nice to play like any game but the core console doesn't change. however it seems to be more and more heading that the next-gen consoles will be totally wireless such as these. I don't want to run around and jump while trying to relax and vent by blowing something up!

Oh and Sony's does look a bit like a joke but what can really be expected when we see the developers shirt ShutUp.gif

Yep the Price Tag at amazon is 149$, So its not really that cheap.

Microsoft is win, Sony is fail.

Sony fails for the simple reason that you'll see the reflection of those glowing orbs in your TV screen. And how can you get into the character of a marine left behind enemy lines, when you're holding the campiest controller ever? I don't see a future for them past the ballet simulator games that they surely built it around. Demi-plié and split, please.

I could've sworn that I saw "Kinect" used before on Lego/meccano knockoff toys, but anyway: from previous looks at Project Natal, I seem to remember these things being ultra-sensitive enough to pick up small finger movements so perhaps it won't be necessary to move more than you would with a controller. The lack of tactile feedback might be countered with special gloves or so?

Microsoft is also working on a 3D TV that has cameras which track eye movement so you won't need 3D glasses anymore. I'm assuming these projects may be related so it could be an all-in-one thing later on. That's why I consider it a win, even though it's Microsoft developing it.

microsoft looks really sick, especially the skateboard thing.

And sony is just making a copy of the wii. Not cool dudes

Watch MS fail:

I got it off a comment on kotaku, you can watch the whole video here.

lol, the player is just mimicking the movement onscreen -- no way that that was live action biggrin.gif

Maybe they decided that the podiumlights were drowning out the signal or so (similar to what Steve Jobs said about the network problems when he presented iPhone 4) but faking it is always gonna get noticed, isn't it teehee.gif

Bahhh i hate sony either ways, i mean they're so jealous of everything even the RroD, they went and created the YloD...tsk tsk...
Anywho pc's are the best biggrin.gif...
Kano
never mind the fact that he was faking who the hell stands like that in real life!

that clip that says fail is edited. if you look at the actual video clip its working fine. I have seen people online play that star wars game and they are doing fine. But if you notice in that BBC clip the dude can't seem to get the fan under the flowers. the controllers were way way off. Which is the same problem with the Wii. Precision is key. I think the Sony fanboys will love the dildoes with lighted balls. But at the end of the day its a Wii rip off and not very good technology. But the Microsoft Kinect is great new technology that even at the end of the day will be kick ass even just to navigate the xbox console. Kinda like Minority Report. That alone is cool. Not to mention evey vid i have seen the controls seem dead on. I guess Sony wants to steal an idea even with its flaws. Thats pretty funny.

The ps3 in my view is a rip off altogether, i mean set aside you can download most games you come across they are way cheaper on pc than on the ps3, 360 isnt that much better but some are cheaper simply cos they arent blu ray...

It's not so much the bloody controler..It's the bloody games that suck. Even so called great titles on the Wii bore the hell out of me. And some games are better played with a mouse then a motion controller. And the movements will always be limited by the space of your living room!

100% Agreed, i have tried to enjoy playing a DS or a Wii but i just can't' all the games are absolute crap. (no offense to anyone who likes DS's or Wii's its a matter of opinion smile3.gif ) You can't play a game properly if you are jumping all over the place or trying to use a touch screen.

I think I have to agree with almost every comment here ShutUp.gif

Much as I love how technology is moving, it really is just an expensive novelty. Great fun when you have loads of mates round after the pub, but realistically, how often does your missus let that happen???

I like to come home from work and SIT DOWN and play a game. I don't relish the idea of smashing up my living room whilst acting like a neanderthal throwback just to achieve a non tangible gold medal!!! I can't even be arsed with steering wheels!! I seem to cope pretty well with that perfect design that is the Playstation controller. Couldn't someone come up with a decent mouse and keyboard for the PS3? That would make me a very happy bunny yahoo.gif

Just my opinion tho...
