I assume you're after a program to block anti-p2p IP?

It's futile and quite naive to try and block IP address' - no offence intended.

If the .au next to your country is correct then you may know Australia has been using the model for European data retention publicly for a while now. Publicly as in, certain public service departments are happily aware of the ISP monitoring. This may suprise you, but since the early 90's after the success of AARNet (Australian Academic and Research Network) the idea to implement commercial ISP's posed huge infrastructural and system development issues. Mainframe servers were designed and built in the first SDC (Sydney Data Centre) for system and security auditing processes. In effect these mainframes albeit a lot more advanced than they were 20 years ago, still filter and retain ALL incoming and outgoing Australian data. As the issue of P2P usage and ISP Filtering has been brought to light in Australia recently, no thanks to the Hurt Locker, Obamas killswitch engage project and bitchy script kiddies moaning about being fired over their facebook profile. The Government has launched an enquiry into internet privacy laws and so we'll have to wait for that outcome in a month or so to see which way the government leans toward and whether or not you need to buy servers in ******* like some people I know for only a 50 cents a week :p
Razan1
Excuse my Naivety, but what do u mean about buying servers? and wow, I should really keep up to date with this stuff, u really know what your talking about! and also thankyou for that and in advance

Also, Yeh I'm looking for an anti -p2p IP thingy, like Peer Guardian :) but I can't seem to make peer guardian 2 work on my windows 7 x64
aZen

Sorry, I guess I didn't make myself clear.

You are trying to hide your IP address yeah?

If you are concerned that your IP Address is being logged, then you should know that it IS being logged and always HAS been logged since day 1 of your connection.
If you're worried about this then change p2p to usenet ie; rapidshare or become a part of a global co-op.

Other people might debate this, however the effectiveness of using a program that has a list of IP's to filter is extremely basic to work around. Anti p2p read these lists and change their IP.
If you intend to use Peerblocker (guardian) safepeer, ipfilter.dat, or whatever, for utorrent and such, this will not conceal your IP Address. Sure they block a couple of amateur anti-p2p groups from parsing data but you're still visiblie on each torrent swarm and they are easy to bypass especially as you have things like unique client/os ID enabled (turn them off :). Also, spoofing your IP has limits and lots of private trackers won't allow for this. A VPN is useless in Australia and very unreliable as they often disconnect from servers leaving you open; hello world. Australia's pirate party offers Privacy.io VPN and it's cheap if you're interested but to most people it's a joke. Use with proxy servers = slower torrenting speeds. You can use TOR (The Onion Router) which also passes through encrypted servers or JAP. (Wouldn't recommend using any of these for p2p) both are free. Tor is very basic to use and n00bs find it fun to proxy hop. You can also get Torbutton for firefox to turn it on and off. SSH Tunneling will work, but that is not easy to setup properly unless you're a unixhat. You could try using I2P/I2phex to hide the data you upload and download.

So, basically you can't use software to hide your IP when torrenting cause anti-p2p just scan the swarm and there's your IP address on a silver platter. A VPN is unreliable and slow. If it's not slow then you're doing something wrong.

A side note; just because you haven't received a letter from your ISP about downloading pirated software etc, doesn't mean your ISP won't have information waiting to be used when legally required to do so :)

What do I use? Nothing. I won't tell you why, but think about using multiple ISP's with anonynmous accounts and purchasing servers internationally. Also until the laws change in Australia why would you bother using anything anyway? just grab your hard drive and run ;)
Razan1
Okay kool so how do iThis >>> "unique client/os ID enabled (turn them off :)"

and thanks for the info, so basically anyone thats ever downloaded stuff has been recorded by ISP's but they will only use the information once the laws in australia change? and do you think they'll change?

Thankyou again for your explanation of all of this, I'm interested :) and need to be... lol u know what with massive fines and stuff lol

So what your saying is Peerguardian does nothing really only blocks amateur anti-p2p groups while the larger ones can just... eat me alive?

rofl 2.gif rofl 2.gif Pretty much says it all.

It doesn't matter where you are, Australia, USA, etc.. You can not hide your IP from your ISP no matter what you do. If you are going to be involved in torrents you have to accept a certain amount of risk. However just due to the sheer numbers of people involved in torrents the likelihood of you being singled out are extremely slim, especially if you apply some caution and common sense to your torrent habits.
Razan1
yeh? thanks :) I guess ur right :P

what kinda common sense and caution do you mean? I get almost all of my torrents from here or demonoid...
aZen
As Stonehenge00 pointed out the volume of internet traffic is too vast to be concerned about being a target unless you're torrenting hundreds of terrabytes you won't need to worry about such things.

If you're interested in broadening your knowledge about IP Protocol go to the Internet Engineering Task Force Website and click RFC Pages then in the IETF Repository Retrieval box type RFC number 2401 and RFC number 4301 respectively.
twoplus
I use This, read it to see why.

I cant remember any of these applications saying they hid your IP.

I also disable iPv6, both LAN and wireless, prior to Installing uTorrent and select forced in protocol encryption.

Other people do their thing, I just do what I do, makes me feel happier biggrin.gif
Behelzibub
Also check out TOR, This is more a security package that helps with packet sniffing/analysis and helps keep your IP anonymous.

The overview section gives a good description of what app is about

A little Quote
"Individuals use Tor to keep websites from tracking them and their family members, or to connect to news sites, instant messaging services, or the like when these are blocked by their local Internet providers
Razan1
Thanks a lot guys, this is all helping a lot, I'm quite hopeless at this and without coming across darkside i'd never be able to learn all this :) thanks!

and aZen (anyone else who would like) could you please keep updates going on the Australian copyright/ p2p laws :) I'm really interested biggrin.gif
madhatter420
Bitblinder is another tor like service
While you cannot hide your IP from your ISP (they assign it to you) you can keep them from having any information about where you are going and what you are doing.
Itshidden and Cyberghost are both free VPN services.
A Virtual Private Network connects you to a remote network (hopefully a very trusted one) with an encrypted connection. Therefore your ISP only sees that you are connected to XXX IP and that all the data is heavily encrypted.
FYI all you VPN users out there there was a news article recently about a flaw that allows your IP address to be resolved through PPTP VPN's when using IPv6 check it out here

I would like to add that you should not use the TOR network to torrent, if you read their guides you will see that it's frowned upon and plain rude
Razan1
Cool, sooo sp4 does that mean I should use a VPN? or just not TOR?
st4lk3r
aZen is right, Unless you're downloading terabytes and doing some serious hardcore torrenting your isp wont bother to rat you out. And the anti p2p groups wont bother with you if theirs bigger fish to fry. Or be like me, live in a country that doesn't even have laws about such stuff yet..biggrin.gif
But seriously, i know of people who have been downloading from BT for years and never been caught. Also i havent heard of cases where people were fined or imprisoned for a movie or two a month...
And again i side with aZen, if you want to be safer you should join Rapidshare or "Similar" sites.

Hope i made some sense drinks.gif
Razan1
Yeh you did thanks, so just run a rapidshare type thing? and also sry but how does this work? is it basically an IP filter?

Also if I used something like rapidshare if the anti-p2p groups wanted couldn't they just grab like everyone from there?

hope those questions made sense :P
twoplus
For anyone Interested. This came highly recommended as the real deal.

I don't know how effective it is personally, I never used it, but have signed up for the free account. biggrin.gif

Razan1, if I understand your original question it was for a replacement for PeerGuardian2 Clicky It also will reference some block lists from Bluetack
pete21
as twoplus said in his link peerblock is a replacement for peergaurdian 2 , it is the pg2 beta that has had the bugs fixed by fans of the application
it has all the pg2 block list + more
it's basically pg2 but fixed
