ConvertXtoDVD v4 (Windows 7 Ultimate, 4GB RAM, 2TB HD, AMD dual core 5200+ 2.6GHz)
If I load up and quit it quits properly.
If I convert a DVD and quit after it's finished I need to use task manager to quit. The GUI closes but it sits as a hidden task.
If I forcefully terminate it before converting I get BSOD.
Any suggestions?
(I downloaded it from here before anyone asks)

Ive been having a DVD driver issue with windows 7, for no apparent reason, the drive spins up and keep spinning if i have a DVD in there. only a paperclip in the hole stops it.
Your issue sounds like the Driver for the CD/DVD is being held open in maybe a similar way to my issue.
Check your event application/system event logs to see if there are any CDROM related issues recorded there.

"hehehehehe" was my reaction when i saw that...ever get the (Black)SOD? now that one just makes you sit back and laugh at your pc...but anyways.
I weirdly never had that problem, but i think i was using the latest version of it..
My advice would be upgrade it to version 4.0.3.x.x and then let us know how it went...

Closing applications seems to be a weakpoint in Windows 7: processes linger a bit, and installers often error on closing

I also have the same problem but I'm runnin vista. If I don't quit it as soon as it's done burning I have to use the task manager to close it down.

i had the same troubles with convertX and then realized a few of my programs were doing the same.. i am the admin as well being the only user..
E.A.C.. was the worst and when i realized i couldn't create a .m3u.. i thought stuff this for a joke.. and quickly climbed back to XP..
and also it seems with some of the older programs couldn't be bothered upgrading their drivers as well...
trial and error!

I haven't had any issues with se7en except for a chinese wireless driver but that was easy to fix. Maybe you could try a Linux distro. Ubuntu or openSUSE are extremely basic to use and you don't need to know anything about the OS as it does everything for you just like windows (not that i have ever used them) and they both have a friendly user base with lots of helpful forums and whatnot as opposed to Gentoo users and such :P

Strange - with XP my TB drives show everything as normal (I have same CPU as you but more RAM and more HD space)

There seems to be a sudden influx of apps that wont quit when you want them to....so, first, are you running an app with administrater permissions ?
If Win7, right click on the app in question and click 'properties/compatibility/run this program in compatibility mode for' and tick the box. in the same window
ensure the 'run this program as an administrator' is ticked. Now Ok and cancel.
Now go to start and enter ipconfig /flushdns in the search box and Ok it...then reboot.
Hopefully, that should solve the problem for apps not quitting when told.
Also remember, if your apps have come from shall we say, other sources, do NOT attempt to upgrade them.

Dear Agony Aunt
I am the administrator and I run my both my girlfriend and mistress with permissions. I check their boxes when needed. But they too are at fault when
they just don't know when to quit. Do you have any working solutions?

You forgot to tell Aequi where to place the duct tape. If I may, I have a suggestion for proper placement.
Just kidding,
I am running W7 Ultimate x64 Phenom 9850, 8GB Ram, and don't have any of these issues. I have no problem terminating any applications, pretty much runs without a hitch. In fact my only real grip is my task bar for some reason only known to god will decide to place itself under an open window. I like to auto hide my taskbar, but it seemed to do it a lot more often if I did that so I don't any more. Still once in awhile it will disappear behind the open window. Just a little aggravating, when it does it. I have to minimize any windows covering it and click on something to bring it back into focus then it works fine ......... until the next time. Convertx works and closes just fine for me, I don't use it that much though.
I should mention that the first thing I do after installing my operating system is go into the computer management console and disable my user account and rename the administrator to me, so I always have true administrator privilages. I find this gets me around a lot of BS with installs and some programs. I would not suggest doing this on anyone else's machine other than your own, but it is a little thing that saves a lot of aggravation on your own PC.
