Is there any chance this could be resized to 1024x768 as on stretch the aspect ratio looks wrong.

Maybe cutting of the edges to proportion? Then resizing...
Sorry im not a pro at this kinda stuff but that would be my guess...

First set it to the right height then trim the edges..

I made this by stretching the image to 768x768 and then making a new background at 1024x768, it's not perfect but it might be better than what it looked like stretched....I had to manipulate the traingle as well
