In case you didn't know Michael Jordan - greatest player in the NBA History - went at No. 3 in the 1984 draft.
number one pick Hakeem or in those days Akeem Olajuwon did take the Houston Rockets to two championships, winning the NBA's MVP once, two finals MVP's and making 12 All-Star appearances on his way to the hall of fame, so he wasn't a bad choice!!
But who was No.2??
Sam Bowie was his name and he was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers in what is widely regarded as the biggest NBA draft bust in history.
A high-school sensation, the 2.16m centre did eek out 10 seasons, but it was a career plagued by injury.
OK, so Portland let the Chicago Bulls take the games true superstar- who picked up six rings, five MVPs and six finals MVP's - but Jordan isn't the only one they missed!
At No.5 "Sir" Charles Barkley- a future MVP and 11-time all star - to the Philadelphia 76's.
Way down at 16 was John Stockton, probably the best point guard the game has ever seen, to the Utah Jazz.
He stayed there for 19 years, smashing NBA records for career assists and steals.
Both Stockton and Barkley were hall of famers.
That's four in the top 16.
Carl Lewis was selected at No.208 by the Bulls despite never playing college basketball.
Strangely he decided to follow Athlectics!!!
Just to rub it in,
No.7 Alvin Robertson of San Antonio
No.9 Otis thorpe of Kansas City
No.11 Kevin Willis of Atlanta were all-stars.
This was one remarkable draft, but if you're still not impressed
Brazilian Oscar Schmidt, known as the greatest basketballer to never play in the NBA, was drafted to the New Jersey Nets at No. 131, but he decided he'd rather play out his career in Italy and Brazil.
Schmidt played in 5 Olympics and was top scorer in three of them!
What do you think is your best year????
