Would like a bit of assistance if possible. Recently got myself a PS3 and I was wondering how I go about playing downloaded games or watching movies, do I need to get the console chipped or anything like that?

You should be able to watch movies on it without a problem, I always watch divx movies on my PS3 (if you are talking about divx movies). Im not sure if you can play pirated games on them yet, not until recently has the PS3 been properly cracked. Also blue ray's are huge and downloading them would take ages.

sony has released a patch that u must downloaded now to connect the ps3 online so it looks likely that the new exploit wont ever work for people to play chipped or cracked games on the ps3.

as for the films get yourself a usb drive, copy your downloaded films on to this and put in 2 the ps3 and just hit play. simple as that :D

Videos are easy to pplay but games will require a little more stuff. Probably need some kind of mod chip to play any kind of pirated game
