I am running a AMD athlon 64.

I have downloaded a copy of office for a mac and it is a .dmg file. I have read that a mac recognises these type of files as an, and i qoute ...

On the Macintosh, these files are treated like a real disk.

My question is ... Do i need to burn this in any special way to disc so my m8s mac will recognise it?

I have poweriso running but its not recognised it. Is this because i'm running a pc version ?

Or do i just send the folder to my cd/dvd writer and burn it so he can copy and paste it onto his mac and then install as i would on my pc ?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but i have no mac knowledge what so ever blush2.gif

Also i probably know as much about the mac he owns as he does rofl 2.gif So ideally i would like to make a disc that would just load.

Thanks in advance. a013.gif

Update : I think i may have solved this problem.

I have changed the .dmg file ext to .iso and now it is recognised and burning in nero. I just hope this works. unsure.gif

well, I don't think you wanted to do that...
.dmg files are kinda like the equivalent of setup.exe files. You should just be able to burn the file to disk, drop it on your mate's Mac, have him double-click, and voila. Let me know if THAT doesn't work.

Cheers i will ..... I have made a disc both ways and will talk him through it and hopefully one method will work. a013.gif

Hi ,
Just in xcase you had no answer :
Put your .dmg on the desktop of your mac and click on it . A virtual disk normally appears on the right side .
If it doesn' t work go to Applications>Uilities and open DDISK UTILITY you will see the way to open that prog ;
You can use TOASTIT with that virtual disk to make a cd or dvd copy
Hope this will help

No need to jump through any hoops.

Just burn the .dmg to disk without converting or doing anything else to it and your friend can open it by double-clicking.

As groon has said.

I sometimes download various pieces of software for the Mac (most family have Mac, I have PC) and I burn everything to DVD-ROM or CD-ROM as data. When the disc is used on the Mac the files can be accessed just as if they had been downloaded from the net.

Note that if you run any DMG files directly from CD/DVD you won't be able to eject the disc until you unmount it (command-click the disc icon and select "Unmount") first.

If you want to avoid this, drag the DMG files to the Mac before running.
