Here's what you need:
TMPGEnc 2.5
VCDEasy
Bitrate Calculator
Kvcd Templates

I have run accross many ways to make Kvcd's and with diff programs.I have a older pc that isn't very fast and this way encodes the best for me.

You will find TMPGEnc here:http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/574615/4395910/

First get your templates from here: http://kvcd.net/dvd-models.html
(YOU WILL WANT THE 352X240) in either Pal or Ntsc depending what part of the world you are in.
Save the file in the C:\Program Files\Pegasys Inc\TMPGEnc Plus 2.5\Template.

Now OPEN TMPGEnc 2.5 and close the Wizard.
Go to OPTIONS ENVIROMENTAL SETTINGS(OPTIONS)AND ENTER THE FOLLOWING IN VFAPI plug-in:
Right click on them to change the #:
Directshow = 3
AVI2 = 1
AVI VFW = 0
CRI = 0
MICROSOFT = 0
WAVE FILE = 0
BMP = -2
TMP = -2

Now you can start the encode:
Reopen TMPGEnc and close the wizard ...now go to Browse for Video.
Chose the Xvid/Divx file you want to convert.The audio will be auto added in along with it.Next choose the output folder you would like to save the file to.The video should show in the window now, if not check in OPTIONS and see if Preview is on.
Ok now we want to open the Bitrate Calculator file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/crystal/My%20Documents/My%20Received%20Files/kvcd%20maker/bitrate%20calculator/BitrateCalc/BitrateCalc.html
Change the setting to Advanced and switch the Dvd to SVCD.
Now add the runtime of the movie you are encoding into the spaces provided.
Change the CD's to 1x80 min and custom size to 801mb.
Next is the Audio bitrate you can have it between 112 and 224kbs : I use 128kbs
Ok now you will get a Calculated bitrate in the bottom left: Rember the # cause you need it next:
Go back to TMPGEnc and choose the Load option at the bottom right and load the Template you would like to use and click ok...
Go back and choose the setting option and go to the middle of the page and change with the dropdown to CONSTANT BITRATE and add the # from the Bitrate Calculator.Now go back and hit START

The last step is to Bin/Cue it: Here's alink to VcdEasy http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/265207/6154274/

Once you open this and go to File and turn on the Expert Settings.Now in the sidebar the first one is what you want ( I believe this is the default anyway)go to the bottom left and uncheck the 2 boxes.Them go over to the right and add the video file you encoded with TMPGEnc.
Go up and browse for your output folder and add a Volume label.Now make sure u have simulate checked and the top says VCD 2.0 and either PAL or NTSC depending what you used.
Go to the top and select CHAPTERS and you'll find 0:00:00:000 change the second one to 0:05:00:000.
Ok Now insert a blank disc( it won't burn ) and click go and your done!

The output will be your Bin/Cue files and a xml(which you can delete) Happy Encoding!

is there a way to REVERSE this?? i got a few GREAT quality T.S. KVCDs but do not have a DivX Ultra player, and the KVCDs won't play in my DVD player. i would love to watch them on the TV instead of the PC.

just re-encode them man!

you may use TMPGEnc 4XP or VirtDub program.
you'll still need the Bitrate Calculator to fix the size (700mb or bigger)

also remember that KVCD have this black frame, so you'll need to corp it & fix the size too (the black frame is wasted data in your file & you need every mb in the movies file)

I followed this guide and it makes a good quality movie that plays well on my COMPUTER. But when I put it in the DVD player out in the living room, it skips like a mother. I get no constant play and it just skips the whole time. Am I doing something wrong?

When you burn the disk, you should only burn at 8x for kvcds. I had the same problem you did untill I saw a post on the ukb site. Good luck
recs1r
yeah, only burn your discs @ 8x speed or lower......or they will f*@&% up & skip every time....
I know most people wanna get the shit done lickidy splickidy, but for vcds & kvcds, only @ 8x or lower, or goodbye disc....
