I was reading around on the forums and I came across this post about how uTorrent users could protect themselves. I thought that was great and all but what if you cant use uTorrent cause you are using a Linux distro? So I searched around and came accross KTorrent. It has a built in IP filter like uTorrent. So here is a handy little guide on protecting yourself while on a Linux distro using KTorrent.

Step 1: Download KTorrent
Step 2: Install KTorrent
Step 3: Download this P2P blacklist (zip)
Step 4: Extract the contents of the zip.

Simple enough right?
Step 5: Open KTorrent and click on Settings

Step 6: Click on Configure KTorrent

Step 7: Click on Plugins, then select ipfilterplugin, then click Load

Step 8: Check Use PeerGuardian Filter

Step 9: Browse for the P2P blacklist file that you extracted*, then click on Download/Convert
It will download and read the file, then click Convert on the promp. It will load (can take a while). And then congrats you are finished!

*Some common mistakes on loading the ip list is people try and load it from the zip instead of the actual file, or try and use a web address. It must be extracted on your machine.

------------

I hope you enjoyed my little guide (aka first actual post), expect more in the future! I will edit this guide and expand it when I find the time, but it should do for now. Give me feed back on this guide, what you want added to it, what other things you want me to try and show you on Linux etc.

If i use Blocklist Manager under windows, save it as PG2, and the squirt across to Linux, i should be able to use it for Ktorrent.

Am i correct in this? i would like to do it this way as i use the paranoid filters for ipfilter.dat

Greetings Mats990,

Here is a new site that has all of the blocklist from Bluetack (B.I.S.S.) and other various ranges and mirrors. It is also handy as it lists ip ranges to allow for certain games and servers. Easy to navigate and updated daily. Enjoy! drinks.gif
