one of the biggest problems when you rip or encode a movies is the size! sometimes its bigger or smaller. and i know some people after ripping for hours they wont bother re-reipping the film again.
so i think the better way to use these calculators, they are more advanced.
BUT REMEMBER EACH ONE FOR ITS CODEC.

Advanced DivX bitrate calculator

PS: lets say you have a film wich is 1H:30m:30s, to make it a 1CD 700\701MB do like this;
you choose the min's=60+30+1=91min & make the file size 701 or 702mb. it'll be 700\701 mb in the end
and dont forget to use the internal calculater of the DivX\XviD, just ignore the bitrate thats out & write the new one you got. (sure you have to fix the sound too!)
Enjoy!!!
