Small but very good app

This torrent upped here by morphius was easy to follow and to install, for those who can't get on with BLM or proto wall etc.

The tutorial in the torrent is step by step video so you can watch pause and work.

Try it a013.gif a013.gif

why??

1) light and easy to use
2) easy to install
3) automatically updates the current ipfilter you have

WARNING: if you currently use an ipfilter copy it to another directory as it will be overwritten by this app, you can then if you wish move it back without any loss of information.

Legion

Hmmm difference of opinion of 2774286013 luckily thats not alot rofl 2.gif

sp4 you know me, it's was removed as soon as it requested internet access saevilw.gif

Will be interested on other members findings who have give it a test.
transient
I'll keep it on for now and see what happens with others. Do you know where it was trying to access?
Legion
Nah sorry transient I had it set to block as all programs then change the setting when I am using them, so I just got a flash that it was trying to access the net, this may be ok, but I have a para head on 99% of the time so it was removed.

dont get me wrong I am not saying this app is dangerous or anything I just feel for me its too much of alarm bell ringer, as is ANY app I use that tries to access the net when not in use... some I cant delete as they are windows essentials lol.

edit -

Ok after adding an ipfilter.dat (para) from a german site latest update about 1 week ago....... ipfilter is blocking like crazy

multiple ips varying in range but all from the 172 xxx xxx xxx from the above but when switching to the "other" ipfilter there are no blocks. unsure.gif

MATH

Time Warner > AOL > My Pc = Never happening.

But after all i am insane tease.gif

I'm not too paranoid...ignorance of a situation will do that i guess. Should i be using something for protection? he asks himself when he's heard that before
Scottee
I tried it and it didn't ask for internet access (but of course I have my firewall disabled blush2.gif ) was proud that I got it to work, it has almost 50.000 more entries than my manual ipfilter.dat. BUT it doesn't block anything ?!?

I watched it for 2 days now and went back to my old list, but that doesn't block anything anymore either?
Any ideas?

Make sure your list is only called .... ipfilter ..... not ipfilter.dat, also did you go into the advanced options in utorrent and set the ipfilter to false then back to true?

also did you put the ipfilter back in the correct file... documents and settings\ "name"\application data\utorrent..

just double check everything scottee just to be on the safe side a013.gif
Scottee
it's in the correct folder and I did switch from enable to disable. Why is it supposed to be "ipfilter" instead of "ipfilter.dat"?? My old one was also ipfilter.dat. I was just wondering that the old one doesn't block anymore either. Highly unlikely that the MPAA is on vacation I assume ssmile.gif
Where exactly did you get your last updated one? I might try that out too. Thanks in advance

The file itself is a dat file.. I always found problems when I renamed it ipfilter.dat.. if it worked before like that then its fine biggrin.gif

I got the last updated one from a german site from a link you posted lol... Think it was last updated on 12/07/2007 the link you posted doesnt take you to the latest one its in a list on that page though. If you need a hand finding the link let me know, and I will have a look to.

sorry to hear you having problems with this app legion as far as im aware it asks for access to update from sourcforge for bluetack dat file at startup

im not saying it is as good as peerguardian thats a no no nono.gif
on the other hand
-----------------------------
PeerGuardian has not updated a critical issue with the "block" ip lists.

Especially for those who download movies and songs, are especially at risk.

(which i know has by been noted by ADL_242 (THANKS)HERE read.gif for those who are not aware

TorrentFreak.com is reporting that some anti-p2p organizations are leeching bad ziptorrents and collecting ips from unsuspecting filesharers.
Recommend that you read the article yourself from the above link.) Personally, I have been updating my peerguardian for the past two days,
and they have not updated the lists with the new ZipTorrent ip addresses. I believe Piratebay.com caught it first, and have been notifying
other torrent forum. So, people have to do it manually on their peerguardian.
A quote from source ..
--------------------------------
The other problem with PeerGuardian 2 is that when it runs it filters ALL your incoming internet stream, and not just the stream
for your torrent client. This makes surfing the web a pain in the @$$ while running your torrent client and PeerGuardian 2. Vertigo173's
approach here sets up uTorrent to do its own stream filtering, which is more "to the point", allows unimpeded web surfing,
and reduces your task count by one program - namely PeerGuardian 2, which is no longer needed.

though it runs with µTorrent at startup an for me it seems to block some stuff this is a few of many whoknows.gif

Hello everybody!!

I installed it and it works great.
But curious about some things.
If I understand that right the Ip blocker ensures my PC of hostage trackers like AOL or anyone else, aren't it?
So in a few minutes of use the Ip blocker blocked 100 - 500 entries. That's quite much, when I think about it.

The main question is. Is my system saver then without the Ip blocker or not?

I go double safe and use the Utorrent ip filter and PG2 cause i have been having an ip that tries to connect to me thru utorrent every 2 mins even when i am not downloading.

Generally when you're not downloading any illegal files such as torrents or something like limewire then yea you could probably do without an ip blocker but if your going to be downloading files that the RIAA or any other government agency doesn't want you to then i'd rather be safe then having 10 federal agents knocking my door down to arrest me for file sharing.

Just to help some less experienced users.

Go to
Start/Run
and enter %AppData%\uTorrent
Copy your ipfilter.dat in there and restart your uTorrent client
When your client loads check the LOGGER tab. It should say Loaded ipfilter.dat (****** entries)
(That means your ipfilter is setup and working)

Also if you are using peer guardian then these are some IP ranges you'll want to block:

MPAA Tracker:66.172.60.1-66.172.60.255
MPAA Tracker:66.177.58.1-66.177.58.255
MPAA Tracker:66.180.205.1-66.180.205.255
MPAA Tracker:209.204.61.1-209.204.61.255
MPAA Tracker:216.151.155.1-216.151.155.255

You can instert the above coloured field in a a_name.p2p file and load it with PeerGuardian

Thank you eveyone! a013.gif

As I read through this thread I was getting more scared by the minute. cray.gif I use uTorrent and have always upgraded when ever there was a new verison. I was up to 7.5 something. I have been using uTorrent for a few years and didnt know anything about the IP Filter list or Peer Guardian! Man talk about putting it out there as a big ol target!!

I downloaded the Autoupdate film that Morphius talked about! Unfortunately I couldnt get the video to run. Windows media kept saying the flie was moved. But it had the last good version of uTorrent included!

Thanks to d3mon3 with their easy quick way to update for us inexperienced users! Seems everything is up and both the IPFilter and the Peer Guardian are working fine! Now I feel a lot better.

Do have a couple of questions first. When updating peer guardian I get an update error for the p2p list. Is ther anyway to correct this? When opening the list there are ip's inside but after the inital download it errors out. All the avaliable lists except 3 update ok.

Second, does anyone know where I can get lists for Europe? Or do I even need them? It was mentioned briefly here but there wasnt a link included as far as I could tell!

Again Thanks to all of you! drinks.gif
