If you like a good thriller watch - Perfect Blue. This film blew me away when i first watched it, a proper psychological thriller in Anime, It's a bit full on so not for kids. A really excellent movie. also If you liked Hellboy there are a couple of animation films of it that would be worth watching, They use all the Actors from the Real movie to do the voices, would make real good action films in their own right. a013.gif
randy33169
not entirely if this counts as a movie sry if it does not

i recommend the HellSing ova,s its a series or movies after the Anime finished and they have not released the rest yet for all i know but its full or gore and the best one to watch is the Japanese the English version does not show as much gore well cheers and umm the ova's fill in the blank about the mellionum (how ever its spelled) organization

I'm a bit of a novice to the genre but here's what I've loved:

Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Ghost in the Shell 2
Ninja Scroll

I don't know if Death Note fits in this category as it is a series but it's so amazing that I have to mention it, twice.
Death Note kicks... (well you know)!!!

I just learned in this thread that there's a third Ghost in the Shell movie so I'm off to find that and I'm sure it will make my list as well.

P.S. I had a hell of a time finding an english subtitle track for Ghost in the Shell 2 but finally, through a lengthy, hair-pulling search session I came across a good site

Based on the quality of the G.I.T.S.2 subtitle track I found at this site (not to mention the only place I found to have it) and their extensive catalog, it seems to be a good resource for those that enjoy foreign entertainment.
sabotank
how about Tokyo Godfathers rofl.gif
kosmiko
Nobody mentioned "Lens Man" before, and is one of the first japanimation movies ever to reach western counties and find full acceptance after "Astro Boy".

As some series like Neon Genesis Evangelion were mentioned, it is in the best interest of the comunity to pay some attention to Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, xxxHolic, Hunter X Hunter, Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Fruits Basket, Full Metal Panic, Full Metal Alchemist, Gun Buster I and II, and Flame of Recca.
icecold89
I recommend Basilisk, Naruto, Ninja Scroll, Bleach and Shura no Toki, although their all series (not counting ninja scroll cause it's originally a movie)

I dont know if this is where you want it but i recommend Endless Waltz its a Gundam Wing movie
Necoth
I'd recommend Cat Soup. Its not really the anime style, but if you liked Serial Experiments Lain (that series is my all-time favourite just to give you some perspective), its a more abusrd version of that.
Basically the movie is 1/2 hour long, and tells the story of cats that look like Hello Kitty. Death takes the soul of one cat's sister, but her brotehr fights for it and it rips in two. He then goes on a quest with his catatonic sister to recover her ruptured half.
Mixing images that stay with you for months (a thunderstorm inside a living transculcent elephant that ultimately escapes and floods the world), and truly bizaare settings (metal scuplture graveyard) make this movie quite nifty. The entire tale is told with no dialouge, and the characters speaking in a gibberish-language (actual gibberish, I don't mean a wierd varity of Japanese :))
Katchan
Although they've been mentioned already, definitely Steamboy and any of the Miyazaki movies (good site: http://www.nausicaa.net ). I remember the Tenchi Muyo movies were really fun to watch with friends. Also, although I never liked the show, the Love Hina Christmas special is pretty fun too.

This thread reminds me I should go download The Girl Who Lept Through time and check it out.

Check two of the weirder Miazaki movies, Porco Rosso and Pom Poko

Pop Poko is not really Miazaki but it was from Studio Ghibli.

For series my favorite is Witch Hunter Robin
