get Norton anti virus It's not a Resources hog like the windows version and can catch a lot of the windows virus's
Just FYI macs don't need an antivirus there just isn't enough mac's out there to spread

If you're desparate to do a virus scan, I'd suggest getting an appropriate demo version, something like VirusBarrierX from
Tucows as the trial period is usually 30 days. But I never bother

As far as I'm aware, there's never been a single documented case of anyone catching a Mac virus in the wild.
All the same, I had Norton (NAV) installed for a number of years and always kept the virus subscriptions updated, but when my drive died and I replaced it, I started with a fresh OS install and this time decided to skip antivirus entirely.
The only reason for keeping an up-to-date antivirus program on your Mac, at least IMHO, is if you share files with Windows users and you want to make sure they're Windows-virus free.
Of course, everyone will have an opinion on this, but I've been using Mac for 17 years and I've never run across a virus in that whole time.

I know this is an old thread, but for those users who are new to Macs, I will throw in some of my own insight: I have been using a Mac since 1993, and I also have NEVER seen or had cause to even think about computer viruses. I can safely speak for my dozens of Mac-using friends and co-workers as well.
