After posting this neat little addition to µTorrent for members i have seen a few ask what is it what does it do
So to explain in detail a bit it auto updates from known blocked ip ranges the bad guys
now if you install this then
Vista.
click start then type %APPDATa% C:\Users\your name \AppData\Roaming\uTorrent .
Xp.
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent
look for ipfilter right click it open with notepad .. now have a look you will see amongst others #-4-

#-4---(main tool)----Merged by BlockList Manager 2.7.7 (2007-05-28).

It's my understanding that you can see who is uploading torrents with ziptorrent through the peers listing. Is this correct? Also how to I Identify a hostile IP address and effectively let the rest of our community know about it. I would like to become proactive in this area and dedicate my time. I need a teacher. Any help for the FNG on the block?

They use hundreds of these clients at the same time and this can potentially bring the average download speed down to zero. Even more so, it is not unlikely that it will record your IP-address in the process so they can send you a copyright infringement notice on top of it.

On the Media Defender website we read:

“Decoying and Spoofing are the most commonly known techniques that we employ. We send blank files and data noise that look exactly like a real response to an initiated search requests for a particular title.”

According to ubisuck over at the mininova forums, Media Defender is doing just this with ZipTorrent. Apparently the fake client is a mod of the popular BitTorrent client Azureus which can be configured to send fake data.

Here’s a full screenshot of the ZipTorrent configuration screen. As you will see, there are some dubious settings like “fake upload ratio mode”, “no upload” and “safe fake download”.

It is not hard to check whether you are connected to these fake clients. In the peers list of your BitTorrent client they will show up as “ZipTorrent” and most of the time you will be connected to a bunch of them all originating from similar IP addresses with either 0% or 100% of the file completed.

However, there are blocklists to stop these malicious clients from connecting to your BitTorrent client. Pasted below is a list of the known IP-ranges ZipTorrent is on. The ranges were identified by The Pirate Bay team and are posted in several forums. You might want to add these to the blocklist of your BitTorrent client or PeerGuardian.

There’s one problem though, Media Defender will probably move to new IPs if they read this, a never ending story.

Update: The legitimacy of the screenshot and “ZipTorrent” is doubtful but the IP ranges are correct. Spoofing is not limited to a client like ZipTorrent and I’m told that clients like uTorrent and Azureus are also used to do this job.

The best way is to limit them in swarms by keeping your ipfilter/safepeer/Protowall/pg2(if you have too) up to date by the method above or just using BLM to update the files manually

Right this is wat I know, IP filter is a program in utorrent that blocks bad IPs, there is a way that you can add more lists of bad IPs to the filter via The Blocklist Manager that you download seperatly and update then export into utorrent. This is about all I know of that but Morphius is the man to ask.
PG2 is also an IP blocker which runs along side your torrent client. You have to enable all the lists in the program and then update it or set it to update itself. There is also an option to block HTTP but I find this to much and it blocks most of the web.
They both serve to stop bad IPs from getting through to you when you download/upload torrents, like Copyright protection agency's, also there are company's that put bad data into a torrent to slow it down or try to spy on you.
Follow the links in Morphius's post and have a look round this forum.
Other clients have there own filters also but don't know to much bout them.

I did try to copy and past these in and I could not get my Ip.dat to load them I think my format is wrong some help on that would be great.

Can't get there from here. The format is wrong.

"ipfilter.dat file is as follows:

IPs range , Access level , Description

Access level values lower than 127' are blocked IPs and values over 127 are allowed IPs.

IPs range values are described by an initial IP a dash and the ending IP of the range. "

Note that there are spaces before and after the - between high and low ranges.

I have the ip ranges isolated now. I will try to work on fixing the format.

Although, as I remember it, this is one step above machine level programming. I hate machine level programming!

mine dont show any blocking. it olny say ( loaded ipfilter.dat 7742 entries. ). what did i do wrong any help ?

If you can see [21:02:18] Loaded ipfilter.dat (838282 entries) or somting like that then all should be working.

But maybe you are using an old list? Try this one

I download the ipfilter torrent by vertigo173 and in the one of the text files it says that utorrent 1.6.1 is in direct partnership with the movie studios so why the hell would I install that version then. It seems to me that all versions after 1.6.0 are dodgy. Can I use azureus instead with the bluetack filter updater.

I had nothing better to do at 3am in the morning so i log onto utorrent and found a few more in the stream thought i would share a few anti p2p Ip so you can add themto the list to watch for! The way i look at it every little bite helps the cause. But i am still trying to figure out how to added them to my Peerguardian program just a little help me would be great!

I tried this to update my ipfilter on vista, the only problem is when i get into utorrent's fold there is no ipfilter.dat file.......

is it possible for me to make one? or do i need a newer version or utorrent? currently i have 1.8.2

I just checked I have ipfilter enabled yet there is no ipfilter.dat file there, can someone share there pls?!?

Id like to apologize first for my noobness as i am new to many things including this site. I applied the bat file to as posted by one of the members (i forgot who) when i try to download anything it gives me an error message something about not being able to locate something (sorry) it used to give me that message when there were no more seeders for the torrent but after the install it does it to all, im wondering if all the downloads ive been doing were from the bad guys or if i made a mistake. I use utorrent all the time so it would be good to know lol. also any recommended torrent sites would be great! that is all.
