When I was just a wee sprout sitting in the theatre on the opening day of Star Wars episode: IV, I screamed my little head off during the trash compacter scene because I was afraid Chewbaca was going to get crushed.

Carry.
That end scene. When you think it's all over and then the girl puts flowers on the grave and out comes the hand that grabs her... (<select if you want to see the text) Oh man, that absolutely scared the crap out of me. I had that on my retina for days. Had to have the lights on at night. It took years for me to be able to see that movie again.

Ooooo Great topic. I eliminate the "slasher" type films just our of general principles. My vote goes, without question, to the "The Haunting" (1963). NO blood, NO gore, minimal special effects, yet is is genuinely terrifying. It was directed by Robert Wise, who read the Shirley Jackson novel while he was directing "The Sound Of Music" (lol)
Click to view attachmentIts about a house that was simply born evil, and it has one moment often considered one of the scariest in film history. Just remember the line "Then whose hand was I holding!"

Try this...
The Haunting (1963) It's being tracked via Mininova, appears to be live.
Hope you enjoy it, in the night....in the dark...

I can start seeding The Haunting tonight about midnight Eastern Standard time (US east coast). I'll make sure its the only file I'm seeding, and can seed 7-8 hours a night til you get it. I'd seed longer but it really tanks the performance on my cable-internet. I have other online commitments which prevent more extended seeding, but I will stick to this. I grabbed it just before halloween, and its a very good rip.
Hope this will help!

was really looking forward to watching this.
cos of the file size,it took me about 4days to download
sorting through the muddled files was a nightmare in itself, but i was really enjoying the movie.
i get to the last part.
at first,i thought the character was speaking in 'tongues'...
but no..it all just turned into a spanish speaking film...
luckily,i found the english subtitles, but kinda spoiled the tension.
never mind.i can still see this is a classic movie.

when luke gets back and sees his auntie and uncles place burnt and the skeletons there... i couldn't watch it for years (from about 5 years old), i knew exactly when to close and open my eyes again from the music :)
i thought event horizon was quite scary and jacobs ladder always freaks me out, that thing with the vibrating head....

Nightmare on Elm Street, the first!!
The part where Freddy stretches his arms and reaches two opposing walls while chasing the kids. For a 7 year old, that was freaky!
Also, the part where he grabs Johnny Depp from under his bed.
Couldn't put a hand out of bed at night for over an year.

Requiem For A Dream is the only movie where I couldn't fall asleep the night later. I still couldn't stop thinking about it the next day either. It's just so much more real than the typical horror movie. Less Than Zero shook me up a little bit too but part of that was because of the role Robert Downey Jr. played and how well he played it.
