This guide will help you hardcode subtitles to your avi/divx files allowing you to have subtitles for divx dvd players.
first you need AviRecomp

1.After installing AviRecomp on the computer, start it from the Start menu. The main window of the application looks like this.

2.In the “Source & Output” tab, click the “Open AVI” button and select the AVI file you want to merge the subtitles with. Then click the “Save AVI” button and select a folder where you want to store the output file.
Finally, select the size of the output file(if you don’t want to recompress/resize, specify the same size as that of the original file - this will be faster) in “New AVI Size” drop-down box.

3.Go to the next tab by clicking on “Additions” button and check the “Enable/Disable” checkbox in the “Subtitles” panel. Then click the “Load Subtitles” button and select the subtitle file that you have downloaded from the Internet(see Step 2 at the top of the post).

4.In the “Settings” tab, you can specify various settings such as the priority with which AviRecomp should be run, if the temporary files or the source file should be deleted at the end etc.

5.Go to the last tab by clicking the “Queue” button and click the button “Add to Queue” to add this job the to queue. The above steps can now be repeated with more AVI files and added to the queue if multiple merge operations are needed to be performed.

6.When ready, click the “Start” button to start the merge process. The status will change from “Waiting…” to “Running…” state as a result.

It also allows adding black borders to the movie and place the subtitles on them.
It also installs many other useful video related software like VirtualDub, AviSynth, VobSub etc, that it uses for doing its own job, making it unnecessary to download and install these software separately.

please understand that it will take some time to recode the avi with the subs. common duration is around 2 hours.

*below is a video of the process i use to hardcode the subs*

if you have any questions just ask and ill try and help you resolve them.

I did have a bit of a problem when adding the SUB file (it said something about an invalid file format) so I downloaded a SRT instead and that worked perfectly.

Hey, Thanx for the useful info and program. Seems to work good, but I have one problem:
the subtitles i'm trying to hardcode are in russian, and when I do the whole process, it ends up hardcoding in gibberish.
How can I set it to hardcode in the proper language?
I set the settings at the directvobsub appication to russian and in MPC it shows correctly, but here...

Thanx in advance.

Just registered so I can thank Joecef for the help. Been looking for this so I can watch my non-english avi's on my PSP after conversion instead
of just using my PMP.
Just did one and it was great and easy to use.
Good Job!

First of all thanks man. This looks like just the thing I've been looking for for watching foreign films on my archos. a013.gif

However......

I tried to attach the subs from the axxo torrent for Pan's Labyrinth and got all of the code relating to the colour of the subs displayed on screen.

I then downloaded a different version of the subs from another torrent, sorted them with subsync, but when I try to harcode them I now get two sets of subtitles overlapping each other.

Any ideas? evilconfused.gif

** never mind, worked it out now. It was because I was naming the subs exactly the same as the avi file**
