Update µtorrent with Blocklist Manager (Windows XP)

In this tutorial I aim to help you set up Blocklist Manager so it will update µtorrent for you

You need to get the latest version of Blocklist Manager which you can download from the B.I.S.S forums, the install is straight forward so I will jump a step to the setting up stage.

Hit the sources button this will contact the server and supply you wilt a list of lists so to speak

Hit the options button to enter the setup

Click the same settings as I have here(once you feel more advanced you can change them)

Move on the the sources tab (that we updated by using the sources button) in the options and select the ones that you wish to use

Select the sources that you want from the list

Use the enable all key then the disable key to turn of the ones that you don't want

Let's leave setting personal sources till later as there are a few things needed to do first.

We need to open the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\computer name\Application Data\uTorrent
(This will open the folder that µtorrent stores all its data and settings)

You need to create a new text doc called ipfilter.dat (if you dont have it already, right click>new>text doc>name it ipfilter.dat) once done click on the export tab

You will then see the following screen where you need to point to the ipfilter.dat file in the µtorrent folder

You need to give the export a name, format is eMule/Donk (this is the type of blocklist that µtorrent uses) then browse to the folder(C:\Documents and Settings\computer name\Application Data\uTorrent ) , make sure that the export location active box is checked and click OK.
Blocklist Manager will now be set to auto update µtorrent every time that you click the process tab

Many thanks, very useful, and one quick question.

Does this always have the IPs blocked, or is it just when Blocklist Manager is running?
Sp4
If you use the IPfilter in utorrent then it's always on un less you turn it off in the advance settings, this guide just updates the IPfilter for you

Oh ok, awesome, thanks for your help Sp4!

I did everything u said, and a bigtime thank you for this.
One thing I noticed/ran into is once I do all these steps, when it finishes it says, "Error in mnuFetchBlockLists: Overflow"
is it supposed to say that? If no what should I do to correct this?
ss:

again, thank you for this guide! a013.gif

for any who had the lil error pop up, I found the answer to my own question:
reboot
"Some people were able to solve this problem simply by rebooting their PC, if that does not resolve the problem, you might have to install Windows Scripting. If you didn't allow is-RO0CE.exe to run, you might have to reinstall the program."

thanks again Sp4!

Good work DragonzPlay

I always think that if you solve a problem yourself then it's a lesson learnt, if you see what i mean

I've been having error messageswhen trying to use Blocklist Manager to update my ipfilter.dat. The error has to do with failure of level1.txt . Winrar says the zip file on Bluetack is corrupted.

Here's a workaround.

http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php...oad&f_id=17

Click on I accept.
Right click as the directions say and save the level1.gz file.
Open it with Winrar and extract to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME\Application Data\uTorrent.

Ta! Da! Now you can download and process blacklists by clicking the Process button in Blocklist Manager.

you can choose them all if your a bit paranoid then do, i do and as yet have not had a problem that i have noticed although this is no guarantee.

it will update automatically if you set it to in options, i do mine manually once a week, but its down to choice.

i am not sure what you mean by "This source together they created pipfilter (paranoid)??

joe12
thanks.......

In bluetack.co.uk they have one list or filter thats called pipfilter(Paranoid)..i just wonder if i choose all source this will be same like that !!!

and if i manually update thn ineed to follow this same procedure everytime right !!

And lastly if i dont think this not working for me thn i need to delete only ipfilter from utorrent nothing else..or...
Legion
I suppose you could say the paranoid filter would be checking all sources to yes, when you manually update you only need to launch the program in this case BLM click process, wait for it to complete connection dependent could take 1 minuter could take 20 minutes, when it completes click export, if you have set up correctly then it automatically overwrite ipfilter.dat in utorrent. If you dont like it or change your mind and you delete ipfilter from utorrent you would not be blocking any ip's, and would just need to uninstall BLM.

I hope that helps a little biggrin.gif
joe12
thanks again just one more i think im annonoying u but if i wants to use th its better to know it clearly first ...

If i setup auto update...thn how do i know if ipfilter correctly updated or not
Legion
I couldnt say for sure but it "BLM" should tell you there was a problem, you are not annoying me either, just send cheesy snacks to this address a013.gif

Dugudugu
Thank you very much for this guide. a013.gif Very useful.

However, I did encountered some small problems.

1st. Creating the ipfilter.dat file. First I did it the way you described it. Where I was afraid of happened in this Vista ShutUp.gif notebook I have, it created an ipfilter.dat.txt file. I suppose that's not what you meant?
So I opened cmd to change the name from ipfilter.dat.txt tp ipfilter.dat . Removed the wrong export, added the correct export. And then ...... huh.gif

2nd.
...I got this screen: help.gif

Yes I can read the message, am I really that unlucky that the URL is unavailable and that the zip is empty mda.gif?? I did my home work and read the complete topic, did a restart, did what Norton wrote, but still got that message.

Could somebody help me out?

Installed on Laptop with Vista on it and i am getting the same error, i think it may be Vista + the AV we use

What Anti Virus you using Dugudugu

I checked with their forum and my dual boot XP and its the web site that hosts the list, some work some dont. You will have to experiment to find the correct ones at the moment i have DSheild Recomended, L1, L2, Master, Proxy List and spyware and it updates fine.

There site has been a bit wonky for sometime and they stopped updating for a while also.

There is a way to use another sites sources file let me dig it up
