Here's a go at my favourites:
Peeping Tom
Small Faces
the whole lot of Monty Python films
Get Carter
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy & Smiley's People - I know they're TV miniseries, but damn I like them
Gregory's Girl and those other Bill Forsyth films - Comfort and Joy, Local Hero, That Sinking Feeling
Performance
Nil By Mouth
Withnail & I
Naked
My Name Is Joe - the only english-language film I know of that had to be released with subtitles in North America. Which, if you're not from Glasgow, is a good thing.
I Went Down
O Lucky Man
If...
The General
Hope and Glory
Zardoz - if you haven't seen Zardoz, you have no real scale for judging bad movies. Really.
The Third Man
Don't Look Now
The Crying Game
The Commitments
My Beautiful Laundrette
Prospero's Books
The Wicker Man
How about Aliens? It was shot at Pinewood Studios...

Not seen that yet, but i what to im gonna go download it now,
Severance that was so funny, when Danny Dyers character sticks that knife up that blokes bum and then kicks him to the floor, that had my laughing my head off and cringing at the same time, i must have seen that movie about 15 times,
Oh, and everyone should watch The Football Factory with directors commentary, Danny Dyer and Nick Love had me in tears, they are so funny together, i must have watched it about 3 or 4 times with the directors commentary on.

Ghandi is an excellent movie, Ben is magical in this movie. I have seen it maybe 5 times. I recommend it for everyone.

"Saving Grace" is a wonderful comedy so is "Death at funeral".

Rita, Sue and Bob Too love that movie, but i think you probably have to be English to understand the humor, i might be wrong, it's just such an English movie. Alan Clarke is such a good director, Scum's such a classic now, i love that movie it always makes me cry
I think I'll give Gandhi a try, i think Ive seen the other one Falcore

british movies can be taken as an alternative cinema (sure not all of them)
what i like about them is that they dont have all these hollywood spices that kills any original-book!
they care about dialogs more than anything els.
the comedy is good but you have to know that sometimes you need to know more about the culture to understand the jokes.
the only problem with british movies is the sub-accents! not every british accent is understandable by everyone (even the british themselves if i can say)
i believe that as far as british movies keep there style, dont feel like they need to race with hollywood, they'll have there own movers world-wide
as for the british actors\actresses who acts in american movies\tv shows, well as far as they keep there style (some have theater background that make them even better actors) and there accents! they'll be fine
ps: i love american movies in case anyone wonders! ;-) but the truth should be told, isnt it!

I enjoyed "This is England" (2006), about a bunch of young skinheads in the early 80s..the boy playing the lead is brilliant, he's only a kid. Besides looking th the dynamics of these particular kids (mainly boys), its also showing how the National Front fascist party basically took over this subculture and used it for their own <evil> purposes
