Sadly my xbox has died after over a year of use. It has fallen ill to what is the equivalent of the plague to the xbox 360, the RED RING OF DEATH! I am shipping it for repair tomorrow (completely free due to the extended warranty). My question is do any of you know about how long it takes? The website says about 2-3 weeks, but I have heard some people say it takes much longer and with GTA IV just around the corner I am gonna be needing my 360.
Dav13s
got mine back after about 2 weeks. to be fair, MS are doing a pretty good job of getting them back out. Might be different in the US though

i have a temp solution my xbox took all cables out of it and shook it and the lights were gone
QwertyChaos
My friend is good at fixing it lol He has sorted out a good few Xbox's with rROD
drummerdude152002
I can fix any rrod, as long as the xbox isnt under the warranty. Most rrod's means that it just simply overheated, and I can fix it easy peasy.
Dav13s
You can always use the fabled towel method lol (google it)
decius
what do you expect from an M$ product?

to work for more than one year?
vincent1333
Yea, I have seen the towel method. It's pretty stupid. The fix is temp, can burn down your house, and most importantly it can ruin your xbox completely.

RROD=red ring of death happens when the console heats up and all that heat is pushed around the console, if you noticed at all the flat surface of the 360 where it says 360 ever dipped in? this is the heat from the CPU and from components on the Motherboard, with all that heat it starts to expand the motherboard, causing it to warp like a small curve if you where to lay it flat

The 360 is mass produced so there is no humans involved sauldering each component on the motherboard, once it starts to bend the weak transistors will pop or break at one end because they are basically being stretched from their original postition,

This is what the RROD is, an error in the console, due to many of things. but this is usually what happens

Nykon cooler kits? ohh! no!! dont use thoes!! reason:

Xbox360 has internal fans to decipate the heat away from the console so the fans push the heat out! the reason they push it out is because the way the 360 is designed, now. if you notice the Nykon cooler pack pushes air in! what do you think is going to happen? Your going to cause stress on the internet 360 fans, and stress on the Nykon cooler pack. Your basically trying to power air into the console while air is trying to leave, Once the fans in the 360 give out, your screwed because now thoes tiny fans in that cooler have to go threw the Vent and threw the Fans that are stopped, thus no way cold air is going to ever run past the CPU,

always keep your 360 in a cool place, never have it on carpet or standing up right, personally keep it laying flat! this is better on the CD/DVD drive and also, all vents have access to fresh air for better heat displacement.

Same with me. Mines only took a week to get repaired and I got 1 month Xbox Live with it. Although now I just do all the repairs myself as they seem to last longer and the machine runs a lot cooler than with the M$ repair ShutUp.gif

I got a nice way to cure the RROD problem. You'll never have it again! Just buy yourself a PS3. Guaranteed to work even after 6 hours of continuous game-time! XD
CaptCrunch
It will be returned quick. I sent my son's xbox and ps 2 in for repairs and they just send you a refurbished one to replace the one you sent in.

I think you're looking for this thread smile3.gif

In all seriousness I had the RROD twice, both times I send my Xbox to M$, both times I got it back within 10 days. Picked up from my door, returned to my door.

Relax Requiem it was a joke. Believe me when I say that I would've loved the Xbox360 to not be so faulty with heating issues. That's the only thing holding me from buying it.
Also, I'm not a fanboy and I'm certainly not a flamer for that matter.

They sent me back my original one both times,,and it only took a couple of weeks at the most and i live in Cali. For sure no more than 2 0r 3 weeks. sawink.gif OH yeah make sure its laying down sideways not standing upwards! It needs air to be cool from both sides. Dont get those snap on inter coolers they only make it hotter,,..my buddy had one and it melted to his xbox 360,he had to send that one 4 sho. I keep mine like on a laptop or console holder up in the air with it gettin air from all angles. its just like a little wire stand that keeps it up off the floor and lets it breath. stounge.gif

so has anyone fixed the problem themselves? (repaired their own xbox?) without sending in anywhere?

Actually if you open them up and examine the system, which I have and reparied them many times, you will see that it dosn't matter how it's standing. Because of the sheath over the CPU/GPU to channel the air out to the back fans keeping the side clear by lying it down wouldn't make a difference as there is no airflow in the sides anyway. It's actually better standing up and it means the bottom is not pressed against a surface so the heat has some form of escape route. Although your right about the snap on coolers as they have a habit of over-powering and frying the power circuits as it was never really designed to handle the amount of power they draw.

Yeah, I even wrote a step by step guide here.

so far i've fixed two xbox 360's for friends using the same method (just finished one of those about an hour ago) each took ~3h.

DO NOT DO THE TOWEL METHOD, it does not work, the best thing is to replace X-Clamps, either how Flatline did it, or replace them entirely like I did.

Anyone who is daft enough to use the towel method doesn't deserve an Xbox. Or to be allowed to reproduce

We have had 2 Xboxes to this to us. The 1st had about 1 month left on the warranty, and the 2nd we bought used and went 3 red lights soon after it arrived. As a last resort, we did use the towel method and it actually worked (for 2 weeks tongue.gif ).
