Hello fellow Darksiders devileek.gif

Welcome to my guide to watching H.264/MP4 files on your Xbox 360. Some of you may already know how to do this, and others have no clue that this is possible. For group number 2, this one's for you biggrin.gif

As of now, there are a few ways to watch files through the 360, one being wireless, one being a data disc and the other being through a external source connected to the USB.

If the Xbox 360 is hooked up to the main TV where you watch your movies, you can play h.264/MP4 files through that system. You can either set up a wireless network to stream entertainment using Windows Media Player 11 and the Xbox, or you can put the files on a USB external hard drive, plug the drive into a USB port on the Xbox and watch the files that way.

To learn how to stream video click http://www.xbox.com/en-US/pcsetup/vista.htm

To play with the external hard drive, just

1.) Connect the drive via USB with your media files already on the hard drive

2) Power on the Xbox 360

3) Scroll to the Media Tab

4) Click on "Videos"

5) It should say "Select source," and give the choices of watching from your console, disc, portable devise, or computer. You will click on computer if you are using your PC and WMP to stream. If you are using the Hard Drive via USB, click on "Portable Devise."

6) After you click on "portable devise," it will show any videos that are on the hard drive. Click the one you want to watch. Since you have never watched MP4 on the Xbox, it will ask you to verify a update; verify it.

7) Once the update is downloaded and installed, the system will restart.

8) Go back to the Media tab, go to videos, select the video, and it will play.

-no more discs ever, and you will be watching a rip that looks as clean as the original DVD source (only H.264/MP4). Obviously you can watch other formats as well, including Windows Media Video and AVI.

Feel free to ask any questions if any of this guide appears fuzzy. I will check here often, and answer questions promptly. There is also tons of information on the official Xbox website.

Also, if you are a PS3 owner, these files will work as well. Since I do not own a PS3, I cannot submit a guide, but I am sure the same rules apply, regarding the external hard drive and wireless streaming.

Enjoy your new set up!!!

P.S. - Myself as well as newartriot release in this format, so look for our releases. This format is getting extremely popular in the scene; I am sure more releasers will begin releasing in this format as well. I have also seen (briefly) a releaser by the name of MarkII, and also one by the name of Paulx1; this is proof that this kind of rip is catching on.

You need to use something like convertxtodvd. The xbox wont recognise cd/dvd as external memory where it can read movies files be it .avi or m4v or any other. FAT32 formatted drives work fine though.

There is a way to edit your registry so your WMP will recognize MP4/M4V files...as of now MKV will still not stream. I have written a guide on how to do this: click HERE

I believe if you burn MP4 files onto a data disc, it will play no problem from the DVD drive on your 360. If you don't want to stream do that, or use an external drive.

Windows media player never worked right for me so I use either tversity or orb. Either will stream to an xbox, wii or ps3 with no problem. BTW burning to a disk in my opinion takes way too long! Streaming only takes seconds.
