Well, I may be the few? or the dozen of people asking on "How do you connect your Xbox to your Windows PC?"

This is for Xbox's that are running Xbox Media Center or XBMC for short, This is a Modded dashboard that you can get from various sites including XMBC site, This will only work in XBMC (this guide anyways...)

Now befor we get started! we need to go over the things you need!,

1. Modded Xbox (softmodded or chipped)
2. XBMC installed on your Xbox
3. Windows PC
4. Router (doesnt matter which kind!)
5. Ethernet cables of coarse!

Now we need to boot up both Windows PC and the Xbox. Once you get the Windows PC all you need to do is find a location for your folder you want the Xbox to Connect too. I will be using the Root of my C:\ Drive with a Folder named "Xbox1", Once you create your Folder you must Right click on it and select "Properties" now a window will appear quide your self to the "Sharing" tab located at the top, Now You will see a box named "Network sharing and Security" you want to check the option "Share this folder on the network" it will give you the name of the folder "Xbox1" or what ever you had named your folder, Now there is another option, it is optional "Allow network users to change my files" since the xbox cannot change the files/delete/rename you can have this on or off. Now click "OK" to save these changes

Now thats it for the PC side of things all you want to do now as turn on your Xbox and make sure you have a Ethernet cable from the Xbox to the router that is connected to your Windows PC. Does not need to be connected to the internet, as long as the Xbox and PC are connected via Router or straight to each other

Once booted up into Xbox Media center which will look like this,

then locate your self to the MEDIA tab, by clicking Left or right on your D-PAD or Analog,
which will look like this,

Now go to Photo, or Music/video (im using Photo as an example)
which will look like this,

Now click on "+add source" this will be an extrenal source to your PC's HDD,
which will look like this,

Once you click on add source a window will appear on the side,
which will look like this,

All you have to do is click on Browse at the top make sure it says Windows Network (SMB),
which will look like this,

Now Browse to MSHOME (depending on your network configuration MSHOME is default for Windows, but if you changed it, it will still show it) and select it!
Which will look like this,

Now there will be 2 folders, only because if you made your Own folder named "XBOX1" or similar it will appear,
which will look like this,

Now once you select it, click okay!
which will look like this,

You will go back automatically to the directory of your partitions on the Xbox, go down and select the one you made which will look like this, and hit OKAY,

Now you will see an option like this,

yahoo.gif yahoo.gif yahoo.gif yahoo.gif yahoo.gif yahoo.gif yahoo.gif yahoo.gif a013.gif yahoo.gif

This is the network source linked to your PC accessing the Shared Folder you made!

You can do this for all media on XBMC, even apps if you use File Explorer,
Video/Music/Photo/Games/Roms/apps

All you need to do is go to your Windows PC and make sure you have created thoes directories/folders in the XBOX1 folder or which ever you named it.

Once your done, all you need to do is drag and drop the media on your computer into that folder,
In Xbox go to the source you created and browse which media file you would like to play!

NOTE: THIS IS NOT A XBOX360 THIS IS A NORMAL XBOX, XBMC IS THEMED TO LOOK LIKE A 360, SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION IF THERE IS ANY!

SIDENOTE: This is by far the easiest way to do this, I will not post on how to enable a 2nd account on your PC, doing so will slow down the performance of your pc (more files and another pointless user not needed) and this is alot easier to do. This for thoes who would like a Media Box in there living room! you can even stream radio to your XBOX! i will post more guides and helpfull tip's that will show you the Best performace out of your Xbox running XBMC, Thanks (and yes! there will be milk and cookies, and pictures too! of coarse! smile3.gif )

If you have ANY! quesions at all! please feel free to PM me about anything!!

Thanks, a013.gif

Very nice smile3.gif

I'd like to add a note, if you do NOT have Simple File Sharing enabled, you should create an account on your computer named "Xbox" with a password of "xbox" (no quotes) and you will have to allow access to your shared folders to that account in the Security tab. It is also helpful to hide this account from being seen on the Welcome Screen in Windows XP. If anyone needs help with this you can PM me.

Most people do not turn off Simple Fire Sharing however, so more than likely you won't have to do this.

Great guide XxGlitchxX!

yeah np, i thought you'd be the one to comment JasonP27,

i just cant wait for XBMC 08' with PS3 Themes,

I do love xbox for the things it can do (its only softmodded!!)

But if you have ANY suggestions, comments, tip dont be shy to PM!
decius
side note,

The reason i have this is because

1. Its easier to Have this enabled than making a WHOLE NEW account on your PC
2. Its faster do drag and drop files to This directory,

But thanks for the Tip JasonP27

I think ill stick with XxGLITCHxX's way.

I wish i saw this yesterday when i figured out how to do this. :P

Glad to hear it ;)

:D
phantomdiorama
ok dumb question. u can copy files from the xbox to your shared folder as well, right?
decius
Im not sure you can? i Never really tried?

But if you want to Copy Files from your Xbox to PC id recommend a program called FTPZilla or CUTEFTP

Google search and download one of em'

All you do is look on the Xbox on your TV in the corner it will give you a IP adress eg, "192.168.1.4"

run Cute/FTPzilla on your PC type in SERVER:192.168.1.4(which ever your IP is for your Xbox)

User:xbox
pass:xbox <--9times outta 10 its ALWAYS XBOX/XBOX depending if you changed it or not, Port:21 (set automatically)

Then you can access your Xbox's HDD from your PC add files to it, copy and paste them from Xbox HDD to your Desktop,

Also you can backup games like this too! Pop in a Game into the Drive of the Xbox and go into FTP and then transfer it to your desktop

Dont use a regular PC as it wont detect ALL THE FILES!!!

Hope that helps ;)

how do you soft mod a 360??

you can't really... you have to hack the DVD firmware or something

Xbox-Scene has tutorials for all that kind of stuff for Xbox 360 and Original Xbox
SwisSwiss
thx for the heads up Jason, the guide looks good have u tried applying it yourself? iv ben able to install CF on my fat psp but i fear this might be a little more complicaited
decius
Not Complicated @ all,

I love console modding, and have been doing it for quite sometime. Ever since i got the Chip in my PS1 ive been fascinated on what a console can truley do.

But i'd rather buy a PS3 then mod a 360....Remember the 360 runs off old hardware. we dont wanna be to rough on it ;)

but like jason said. Yeah check that site out. Its probably the best. I can give you a few pointers about it. Ohh...you wouldnt wanna be caught on Xbox Live with a backup disc...or thats gameover for your Box. You can still recover the Gamertag on another Xbox that is.

Well have fun! :D I like this guide i did really good biggrin.gif

can you acess live with a softmoded 360

can you acess live with a softmoded 360

yes

will that last long? no because

YOUR 360 (the machine itself not the gamer-id) WILL BE PERMANENTLY BANNED FROM XBOX LIVE WHETHER USING A BACKUP DISC OR A COMMERCIAL DISC OR NO DISC AT ALL

they can tell that your console is modded whether softmod or not and they will ban it
decius
Not true

You can go on XBL with a softmodded Xbox, you need to install the XBL Dash, and you can Dual Boot.

As long as your Xbox Harddrive is of the Normal Size (8-10Gb Western Digital/Seagate) You can go in Xbox live,

If you have a bigger HDD you can get banned, someone have been banned with a Bigger HDD then the Stock Console

But if you have the normal Xbox HDD you cannot get banned (when Dual booting the Xbox Live Dashboard...)

thanks,

that is all true I believe... with the original Xbox though... he was asking about the Xbox 360. What happens with the 360 is you can update to the latest hack/softmod... and then you will be able to get on Live I think without being detected as modded... but as soon as Live has a mandatory update if your 360 is still connected it will probably then be able to detect that it is modded and if that happens the box will be banned
