ok folks , here we go with my next guide , Torrents was the first
now the ever popular SoulSeek gets a guide .
ive been using soulseek for about 2 years now , and have been very impressed with it , it is similar in a way that all P2P apps are in that files can easily be distributed from person to person .
but with Soulseek its all about the MUSIC , and you meet a few likeminded and whacky people on there too .
with tweaking it , you can acheive very good speeds , (esp if you get a canadian who has a 100mb connection !!)
ok , lets get started :
step 1
go to :
http://www.slsknet.org/download.html
and download / save to desktop ver 156 c , its the most stable and at the minute the most popular
step 2
once downloaded , it will be on your desktop and will be named slsk 156c
now doubleclick to install
step 3
once installed , you will need to allow it through your firewall , and open ports to allow file transfer etc .
go to START/CONTROL PANEL/SECURITY CENTRE/WINDOWS FIREWALL/EXCEPTIONS
now select add programme , and select soulseek

now that its allowed through the firewall, double click on the soulseek shortcut on your desktop to launch soulseek .
once it has loaded , you will need to connect and register a soulseek username .
in the top left hand corner of soulseek select connection , and then connect .

after setting up your username , its time to make sure your ports are open for SoulSeek.
in soulseek go to OPTIONS / GENERAL OPTIONS, and you will see the screen below . ( please note i have made up the 19999 port number , yours may be different)
make sure all the boxes are ticked were mine are , and then select " test firewall and router settings"
if you dont have a router dont worry , you will still need to test your firewall settings.

this screen should be in view (please note i have edited out my IP address and port number)
if your ports / firewall are not config properly it will inform you

now its time to get started !
in soulseek go to OPTIONS/FILE SHARING CONFIGURATION - and select "SELECT SAVE FOLDER" - this is were you want to save the files you download from soulseek .
now select ADD SHARED FOLDER - this is what you want to share with others . you can also select who you share with ( eg : your userlist or everybody )

now when you connect to soulseek the files you share will index
when you have connected , your userlist etc will turn from red to blue . now go to SEARCH FILES , ive selected the streets to do a search .
give it a min or 2 to get a good amount , and then click DL speed avg, to list by fastest .

now to download , right click and select DOWNLOAD FILE for single track or DOWNLOAD CONTAINING FOLDER for full album.
MAKE SURE YOU CLICK "ADD TO LIST" TO ADD THE USER YOU ARE DOWNLOADING FROM TO YOUR USER LIST . OR YOU MAY GET BANNED FROM DL FROM THEM IN THE FUTURE.

downloading will start in your "TRANSFERS" window . it will initalize for a sec first before downloading.
rooms with other musically likeminded people are displayed on the right bottom of the screen , have a search and just double click to join a room
