Okay im not sure whether many people are aware of this technique but I will submit this guide anyway....

Basically what you will need is a Computer, PlayStation 3, TV and storage device (external harddrive/ pen drive).

From my own experience I acquire movies through this website which varys in speed and time. Once the movie is complete I used to burn it to DVD so I could watch it on my 52inch Plasma screen comfortably sitting in my lazyboy instead of my smaller 20inch LCD computer monitor- which takes even more time.

In addition to this burning time (approximately 45mins) I am constantly having to purchase new DVD-R's which costs me.

What I have found out is that you can watch movies through your PS3 by connecting any storage device in its USB controller port.

All you need to do is the following

Step 1. Connect your storage device to your computer

Step 2. Copy Movie to the storage device

Step 3. Eject storage device and connect to your ps3 via the USB port in the front of your ps3.

Step 4. In your selected ps3 user profile scroll to videos, an option of your storage device should be there do not choose X button instead.....

Step 5. Press triangle for options, then select display all.

Step 6. Locate your movie and select it using X button.

Step 7. Enjoy the movie!!!! This works with MOST movie files, some will not play which means they are encoded differently may not be supported. The majority are though such as AXXO uploads.

I have used my phone as storage, my external hard drive and my ipod and it has saved me a lot of time and provided a lot of comfort.

hope this helps!!!!

but instead to wait 45 mins for the dvd to burn a movie why don't you just burn movies as data using Nero and on 1 disc you can put 6 700mb movies. :)

No need to move storage device to PS3. Instead turn Media Sharing on in Windows Media Player under Library. Of course you need to have your movies in library. Then on PS3 under network settings turn on media server. You should now see your media server under Pictures, Music, and Video. This is the way I do it and works great. You can see all files you have in Windows Media Player Library. a013.gif ENJOY!!!

Not unless its stated, i have found that divx xvid h264 that work on ps3 all have a default setting to the matrix when encoded, you usually need to download to see this info although some uppers do list the rip stats etc.

also if you are sticking an external onto a ps3 it has to be formatted in fat32 otherwise the ps3 cannot see it, so you can actually have a 1TB ps3.

im not claiming to find this on my own i came across it on youtube But i use Tversity and its way better than windows media and alot simpler All you have to do is have your pc and (in my case) xbox 360 on the same router and it automatically picks it up You dont have to convert or burn or use a storage device It does it all for you In my opinion IT KICKS BUT!!! lol

Been using this method to watch movies for about a year now and haven't had any problems whatsoever, until the other day when i tried to play "Transporter" and the video and audio were very "stuttering" which made it pretty much unwatchable. The video bit rate or frames per second don't seem any greater than any other movies i've watched using this method and i can't pinpoint a reason why this could be happening. Just wondering if anyone is able to identify why this could be by looking at the specs of the file . . .

I traded my 360 for ps3 for this purpose. I still had the old 360 format, it barely played any streamed movies from computer. Ps3 when I first got it was great, now I am having trouble with streaming same as Kentacula. For some reason I believe its the router, it cant handle to much info passing through it even though I have everything hard wired through router "Wireless extreme N". So if anyone can help with this or even have better ideas to improve quality that would be awesome. I'll just keep using tbit portable drive for now, no problems with that. Thanks again to everyone.
