Full Version: How To Convert Dvd To Avi Using Dvdfab
Darkside_RG > Technical Discussions > Guides/How To > Video
KooKoo

First you must Rip the DVD that you plan on converting to AVI. format.
To rip your selected DVD, Do the following.

* Open up DVDFab. To your top left hand corner, select the option under "DVD TO DVD" that
says "Main Movie".

* Now that you have that done, make sure your source is selected. Your source will be the
DVD inside your PC's Rom. So on the source option, select your rom drive.

* Once you have your source loaded and you see the DVD's content, set a destination folder.
In this case, it is labeled "Target". "Target" is where the DVD material you select will
be ripped to.

* next step is the most important one. Locate the title and chapter menu to your left.
Select the title with the longest playing time, this title is the movie. To your right
you will see the audio tracks that came with the DVD. Select only one. To your bottom
right hand side, you will see the "subpicture" menu. subpicture is another word for
"subtitles". Feel free to select them all or leave them blank. That is solely up to you.
I would recomend that you add the subtitles. Plenty of folks have hearing problems and
the subtitles will come in very handy for them :-)

* Next step, look to your bottom left hand corner."DVD-5" and "DVD-9" are the options
available. ALWAYS select "DVD9" to ensure that you get 100% quality. If you select DVD 5,
sometimes, it might require compression and you will lose video quality. Notice how in this case
by picking DVD5 I am not losing quality. Thats because the DVD itself is single layered. If this
were a dual layered disk, by picking DVD5, I would lose quality because the DVD would have to
be compressed to fit onto a single layered disk. So always pick DVD9 and play it safe.

* And now, the moment we've all been waiting for!

CLICK START located on your bottom right hand corner and the process will automatically begin :-)

Once it finishes, you will receive a pop up that says completed successfully. click finish and close DVDFab

Now that we have the DVD Ripped into our hardrive, it's time to convert it to avi using
DVDFab once again

* Open up DVDFAB. Look to your left and you will see a menu that says "DVD TO MOBILE". Select it.
Once you do that, various options will pop out. select the option that says "Generic".

* Now we must select the source. Our source is the DvDRip that we just made. Locate it and select it.
Always select the folder that says "Video Ts". Even though there was a separate Audio folder
all that we need is within the Video Folder. The audio folder is blank! After you select the video
folder, click ok.

* Next step, we need to set a destination"Target". Create a folder anywhere on your pc and name
it exactly what you want your torrent to be named. It has to be exact! In this case, I name my "target"
folder " Escape From New York [DVDRip] [By KooKoo] [h33t] . Once you've got yours created, select it as the target.

*Now, this is very important, select the title, subtitles, and audio that you are going t0 convert. Make sure they are
all checked. You wouldn't want to convert a movie without audio wouldn't you! :-) After you've got it all checked
click next.

* Now, before you click start, click on configure. This should bring up another window. Here, we will configure
and determine how the avi will come out.

Once you've got it configured, click ok and then click start

I always use the xvid codec at 2 passes and set the audio bitrate to 128 using Mp3.
You can also set it to a filesize limit if you wish to stay at the 700mb mark
Remember that more bitrate= better quality. More bitrate also= bigger filesize.
I personally don't mind passing the 700 mb mark. Sometimes it's not beneficial
to sacrifice quality for filesize.

Well, that about wraps it up, I hope this guide is helpful to those that want to learn a little something.
it's simple, and it only requires one program. Take care

Excellent tut, and the scariest collection of torrents I have ever seen in one place! Nice!

very Nice tutorial, I still like to use GK/AGK for rips because I like to rip at specific ARs and resolutions. If u are tight on HD space, U can also use generic and rip it directly off the DVD, its what I do for the particular harder rips. or when I'm just lazy, it just may take a little longer.

Thanks,

My drive doesn't even recognise new DVDs, is that because it's over 3 yrs old? I'm guessing they've made them that way to combat piracy to some degree, but what can I do about it???
