What was the first single you bought?

Mine was "Resurrection Shuffle" by "Ashton, Gardner, and Dyke".

First album was "Slade Alive" by "Slade". Slade were my first concert also, live at Birmingham Town hall with Thin Lizzy and Suzy Quatro in support.

Noisiest concert was "Hawkwind" at Birmingham Odeon. Ears were ringing for days!!!

Taylor Swift's first CD released in 2006 was the first i've ever bought. Since i've never really liked only one artist's songs (all) before, i thought I'd pay for it haha.
White Elephant
I splashed out on two at the same time (always been keen on things that come in pairs, ahem): they were Rock Around The Clock by Bill Haley And The Comets and Jailhouse Rock by Elvis.

I paid the princely sum of £1.99 for each of them from Woolies.

And before some smartass pipes up: no, that wasn't on their original release.

All the same I do feel my age when someone writes that their first purchase was a CD! It's not a good day when a colleague looks blankly at you, when you refer to "side two"...

My first was a 45rpm single - Strawberry Fair by Anthony Newley. Saved up for weeks and played it on my glossy new Dansette (not the Major) until the groove wore through. Moved on a bit since then, eh?

@Hash - you've just reminded me what I've been missing all these years! Downloading some Chas n Dave even as we speak! drinks.gif

EDIT: Chas n Dave are now playing and seriously confusing the wife (she barely speaks English let alone EastEnd!) and the neighbours. HeHeHe

Meet The Beatles.

I won it in a contest at school and received it in my homecoming class. The teacher was a real d*ckhead who taught Mechanical Drawing for future arquitects and draftsmen (precomputer days obviously) and helped the couches for football and wrestling. If you were a girl he called you by your first name. If you were on a sports team he called you by your first name. If you were a guy and a reject, like me (haha), he either ignored you or looked at you like you were a disease. Needless to say, receiving a record album with the picture of 4 long haired weirdos gave him the opportunity to make fun of me in front of the class. I got the last laugh.

Ah, first record! That takes me back a bit! I actually bought two at once with some birthday money I got - I remember them well. House of the Rising Sun, by the Animals, and Twenty Four Hours from Tulsa, by Gene Pitney. Think they cost two and sixpence each. My parents had just bought a radiogram - it was automatic (!) and you could stack your 45s up top of the spindle and they'd flop down and get played one at a time! Magic! The wonders of modern technology! My first LP came some years later (who needs LPs when you've got an automatic radiogram!), it was the first Bert Jansch album. Twenty five bob, I think.
