Hello guys! We have been getting news lately of some anime franchises that Hollywood is setting their eyes on. Among these, the talk of the Tinsel-town lately has been Dragonball and Akira, both currently in production and with a targeted release date sometime in 2009.

I do agree with many of you that the above two anime titles are bad choices for a Hollywood movie simply because many of the elements of those two classic anime that we enjoyed so much cannot be translated into live action and might just be murdered in the Hollywood version (Who can play the role of Goku, for instance, and how will he look like in the live action movie? If we actually copy the hairstyle from the anime, it will just look plain silly. On the other hand, will they actually be true to the violence and gore that defined the Akira anime in the Hollywood version?)

In spite of these controversies, I would daresay ask you guys: If you were a producer in Hollywood and you would like to make a good live action movie from anime, which anime series/movie do you think would it be, and who would you like to direct that movie, and who are the stars that you would like to cast among its characters?

Here's mine:

If I would produce a live-action movie from anime, I would like it to be the original Macross/Robotech. They can make this into an epic trilogy (1st part would have the Zentraedi as the villains, 2nd part the Robotech Masters, and 3rd part the Invid). I would like either Peter Jackson (because of the nice work he did in Lord of the Rings) or Ridley Scott (for his nice directing in the first Alien and Black Hawk Down) to direct this movie.

As for the cast, weeell...

Rick Hunter - Jake Gyllenhaal seems to be the closest choice for this guy at the moment.

Roy Fokker - Owen Wilson comes to mind.

Lynn Minmei - Athena Chu. She can sing, and she can act, and she's Chinese.

Claudia Grant - Halle Berry. Can't think of no other.

Lisa Hayes - Jennifer Aniston, probably.

Captain Henry Gloval - Remember that Russian astronaut in Armageddon? Yep, Peter Stormare. He's the guy for this role.

Maximilian Sterling - Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame seems to fit the role of the ace pilot, if only for his nerdy looks.

Breetai - Christopher Lee. He's got that deep and scary voice, fitting for a Zentraedi giant.

Dana Sterling - Sarah Michelle Gellar. Impulsive and strong-willed like Buffy. She can easily play this character.

Gosh, there are still many characters I haven't named, and this post is too long already (forgive me). I would like to know what you guys think.

Not "Dragon Ball" looks too Americanised.

I dont think Live Anime movies will be worth watching, doesn't capture the 'Animeness' of the feature.

QUOTE
(アニメ, Anime? literally - "Anima", taken from half of "animation") (pronounced [anime] listen (help·info) in Japanese, but typically pronounced /ˈænɪmeɪ/, /ˈænɪmə/, /ə'naɪm/, or /'ænaɪm/ in English) is animation in Japan and considered Japanese animation in the rest of the world.[1] Anime dates from about 1917.

So technically there isn't such a thing as 'Live Anime' because it doesnt follow the rules to go under the term 'Anime' a022.gif

Why does piccolo look more like friese in those screenies?
Blood.Red
the dragonballs look like giant glowy marbles. not how id imagine them, or how id portray them if i was directing.
Glitchcannon
id imagine them as like balls of light and make them look solid but not entirely....if that makes since
and D.Gray man? anyone if they did it right it could be really good
ikilledmyagoia
Not trying to be a reverse racist ehre, but why does it have to be a white kid protagonist
It's getting a bit overused in these crossover movies... Karate Kid, Forbidden Kingdom, Bulletproof Monk, etc... it just doesnt work
Not to mention isn't Goku usually looking like a beast and not having his tunic flatten out his chest/ hide the hell out of his upper arms?
Hashishin666
That's because as soon as somebody gets a job in the hollywood movie industry their brain falls out through their ass... or so it would seem anyway.
