Hi everyone a friend recommended me to this site and I am glad! I recently got a Macbook and I have been trying to watch movies that I have downloaded and every time it says I need something for quicktime so I went and downloaded everything that apple had on there site (i.e. xvid and a few others) but nothing let's me watch them still. I am new to this torrent stuff, I am use to download and play. Well as I said I am new to Mac's in general and I love that some stuff is a lot more user friendly but more and more I try to do stuff it seems everything is for PC. I am not real computer smart just bought the Mac for creating music and if any one could please help me get this figured out so I can start enjoying these movies. One last thing once I get passed this is there anything else I have to do to burn these to dvd?

People are going to tell you to use VLC, but I've had problems with that and I'd rather use Quicktime. If you want to watch everything in Quicktime, use these 2 plugins. They're transparent, everything just opens and plays in QT:

Perian: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30931

yes Quicktime will do you just fine along with Perian.
But I personally prefer VLC because of Quicktime's annoyance.
And you don't necessarily have to download Perian if you use VLC, but install it anyway so that the video files can be played through QuickView.

If you mean be able to watch them on TV, there are 2 choices:

Personally, I bought a US$40 DVD player that plays .avi files, so I just download, burn to disc as data (without converting anything) and watch them just like that. If you need to play them on a player that won't recognize .avi's you'll have to convert it to DVD format first.

I use VisualHub for that, then burn the disc in Toast.

But frankly, this is a real PITA and waste of time. I haven't done it since I spent the $40, and with a player like that you can fit 4-6 full-length movies on a single DVD.

that does make sense groon. I personally would do that if I had the money, sometimes working harder is cheaper...... it's what I tell myself anyway.

but seriously groon, thank you for this advice!!!

and as far as the VisualHub.... well check out this thread.

OK, hi.gif maybe this is a blond answer haha.gif ...but here we go, just keep in mind that I am trying to help and give back to the community, but I am also a noob...

I followed massa Groon read.gif instructions and yesterday I went searching for THE dvd player... since I already have 3 dvd players at home, I just wanted a cheap one that could handle the aviīs

Went to 3 stores but in my "area" none of them had a player with the specs. Even that one had an advertisement on their webpage for it Grrr.gif

I was determine to find a solution, so I called a friend and he told me; "why donīt you just buy a cable that can connect your powerbook to the T.V. and play the movie from the computer" yahoo.gif so I did and it works! not perfect, the color is faded (maybe its me, not knowing how to) but no more dvd burning, unless for some reason I want the keep the physical dvd. Otherwise, I just save them in my external hard-drive, of course this is a temporary solution (until I find the player or popcorn machine) but the cable was cheap and I got to watch the movies on the big screen bye.gif
