I use VirusBarrierX5 and everyday it keeps finding this "OSX.RSPlug.gen.cron" as a virus and I tried to look up in finder but it can't find it this file anywhere so I know you all say Mac's are pretty much immune to virus's so I am confused if this is a virus or just a file that VBX5 don't recognize. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!

A search of the Apple tech support site turns up this:

You might try asking at the VirusBarrierX5 forum.

Googled It
Apparently it is a Mac virus.

Mostly to catch windows virii before we pass them on to you!

The link sums up pretty much everything.
And it's not a mac virus, it's a malware.

Anti-viruses for mac are pretty much useless to be honest.

True. I'm usually just too lazy to differentiate between spyware/adware/viruses/worms/trojans and just call it all 'virus' unless it's a technical discussion. The OP got my meaning and hopefully gets it removed.

ok, first off, macs are NOT immune to virii, trojans, spyware, worms or any other sort of malicious entity. they are just less attacked as they have a very small userbase (albeit more than linux)

groon is also correct, A/V apps are typically installed on them to check email so that you do not pass virii on to a windows user, as whether your computer can be infected or not, it can still pass them on through a bad file.

3rd, .cron is usually a scheduled task if i'm not mistaken, so check your calendar app, and search for any cron jobs on your computer for this rogue file

Ok I tried finding the file again by running VB again but this time it did not find it. I looked all over my Mac in finder and can't find and also tried to do what the attached link you sent me for Macworld and I could not find a file with plugins.settings anywhere but my DNS is grey like the article said so I don't know if I have one or not. As we speak I am running a different antivirus program to see if it finds anything. Hopefully this was nothing but anymore suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Thanks to all for the help so far!!!!!!!!!!! drinks.gif

I was not trolling for your information, I was merely asking a question to which I did not know the answer. So threadjacking? maybe, but certainly not trolling.

to the OP, glad you seem to have gotten everything sorted!

OK, i apologize, sorry.

Sometimes people like to stop by and ask troll questions. Mac antivirus is one, "Why buy a Mac to put Windows on it?" is another.

I used to use an antivirus on Mac, but i stopped about 2 years ago and never looked back. The general consensus is that they're worthless (for protecting a Mac) at this point. but useful to stop the spread of Windows virii.

Ok thank you all first off thank you all but that article that was suggested helped some and I still could not get rid of the trojan but I called apple and they gave me a download that will check your mac and do a diagnostic for trojans and remove them so I figured I would pass it all on to you if you ever need it here is the website http://www.dnschanger.com/. There is only 2 trojans known to apple at this time and I just happened to get one of them but this program was easy and got rid of it quickly.

Personally to call an anti-virus useless is ignorant, IMHO.
Just because they are not wide spread dose not mean they do not exist. I am still waiting for the day a real good one comes out and wrecks havoc on Macs. Quote my words "The day will come." saevilw.gif whistleing.gif

Not to thread jack or anything.. Sorry.
